Marques de Vargas |
Crianza |
A polished texture carries lively flavors of cherry, berry, orange peel, spice and vanilla in this fresh, supple red. Floral and herbal accents add interest. Graceful and expressive. Drink now through 2030. |

Chateau du Tariquet |
12 Yr. 100% Folle Blanche Bas Armagnac |
The 12-year-old in Tariquet’s noteworthy series of 100% Folle Blanche bottlings is intense, like the first days of spring. Light in color, with a nose full of white flowers and green herbs, the spices swirl in the mouth, particularly nutmeg and cinnamon. It’s all balanced by a beautiful dried apricot note that develops from the midpalate into a long spiced-fruit finish. |

Chateau du Tariquet |
15 Yr. 100% Folle Blanche Bas Armagnac |
As a brandy made with Folle Blanche ages, it often moves from floral towards attractive tobacco notes, as the Tariquet 15-year-old bottling exemplifies. There’s a hint of burnt sugar and dried fruit, but those play second fiddle to the savory herbal and green tobacco leaf notes. |

David Arthur Vineyards |
Three Acre Cabernet Sauvignon |
From the Pritchard Hill producer's estate within an estate, this is dusty in currant and sinewy leather, with a lingering note of resin, violet and graphite. Full bodied and concentrated in black cherry and currant, it shows a density that's complex yet beautifully balanced. Enjoy 2024–2030. |

Guardoilvento Etna Rosso |
Wonderful aromas of blueberries, raspberries and plums. Hints of light caramel, too. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a precise, vertical finish. I like the texture and the tension here. Needs time to soften. Drink or hold. |

Bodegas Jorge Ordonez |
Nisia Las Suertes |
This bold white is full-bodied and exuberant, with exotic flavors of pineapple, mango and coconut that stretch out on a rich frame, but remain firmly supported by juicy tangerine acidity. Atypical but has depth and balance. Drink now through 2022. 1,000 cases made. |

Bodegas Jorge Ordonez-Montsant |
Zerran |
From a 22-acre vineyard owned by the Bodegas Ordoñez, the 2015 Zerran is a blend of old-vine Carignan, Syrah and Grenache and aged ten months sur lie in Burgundy and Bordeaux barrels and bottled unfiltered. It has an earthy, mineral nose of wet slate/pebbles intermixed with black cherry and blacker fruits, as well as hints of truffle and loamy soil notes. It is followed by an outstanding wine with terrific richness, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and noticeable, but well-integrated tannins. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. |

Ramirez de la Piscina |
Gran Reserva |
Heavily roasted aromas of gamy berry fruits, herbs and coconutty oak settle on charred. This wine is bulky and a touch stewed and soupy in feel. Oaky flavors of chocolate, baked berry and cassis end with chocolaty oak on a finish that's heavy and lacking in verve. Drink through 2024. |

Col Vetoraz |
Cartizze di Valdobbiadene DOCG |
This wine is a bright star in a large sea of commercial Prosecco that floods foreign markets. You should look out for Col Vetoraz. Their 2017 Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze Dry is spectacular. The bouquet offers fragrant tones of white peach, crushed oyster shell and garden rose. The effect is lovely. This Cartizze sparkler tickles the palate with soft and foamy effervescence. There is soothing sweetness on the delicate and elegant finish. Some 39,000 bottles were made. This is a great value offering. |
