Chateau de Mercues |
6666 |
Parcels planted with a high density of 6,666 vines per hectare (2,698 per acre) means this is a very concentrated wine. Produced only in top years, this wine's density and powerful black fruits are impressive. It is rich, still structured, likely to be ready from 2026. |

Cornas Chapelle Saint-Pierre |
Concentrated and taut, featuring stylish notes of smoked plum, olive paste, lavender, oregano and smoldering incense, plus a fresh jolt of green herbs. Singed wood spice, clove and nutmeg add warmth, while formidable tannins dominate the full yet racy finish, which is bolted down with iron. Best from 2027 through 2037.—K.B. |

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano |
The 2020 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano opens in the glass with a dusty bouquet blending dried flower notes with hints of cedar and allspice. It's soothingly round, with a wave of tart wild berry fruits and a cascade of inner violet florals, all guided by brisk acidity. Sweet tannins define the finish, with nuances of cocoa and tart blackberry resonating over a layer of fine tannins. |

Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Grande Reserve' |
Coming from galets roulés and red sandstone soils, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Grande Réserve is based on 60% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, and 15% Syrah, aged 18 months in demi-muids, older barrels, and stainless steel. It shows a slightly more modern style with a kiss of classy wood in its red and black fruits, spicy herbs, and Provençal, peppery nuances. Medium-bodied and balanced, it has good mid-palate concentration and ripe tannins. Drink 2025-2035. |

Beautifully fragrant with complexity, showing golden apple, lemon zest, herbal tea, and oatmeal nuances. The palate is splendidly weighted and expansive with excellent focus and persistence. It's richly textured with finely pitched acidity, finishing savoury and lingering. At its best: now to 2028. |
