2021 Pietro Caciorgna Etna Rosso 'Ciaurìa' Aromas of basil, tarragon, baked strawberry, raspberry and hibiscus. Medium-bodied with fine, slightly tense tannins. Steely character to the fruit on the palate, with a bit more spice coming through towards the finish. Better after 2025. James Suckling 93 2022-08-12
2018 Perusini Colli Orientali del Friuli Merlot ‘Etichetta Nera’ The 2018 Merlot is smoky and intense, pulling you close with black currants, sage and crushed ashen stone. A lifting florality develops in the glass with time. This is a round and pliant expression, with masses of red and blue berries contrasted by brisk acids and penetrating spice that adds a more tactile feel toward the close. It tapers off long and lightly structured, leaving violet and lavender to linger. Give the 2018 a short stay in the cellar to come fully into focus. It’s a beauty. Vinous 93 2022-08-11
2018 Perusini Refosco Colli Orientali del Friuli The 2018 Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is deep and darkly alluring, with black currants complemented by violet florals, hints of sage and mint. This is silky in texture, with ripe red and black wild berries complemented by sweet spices, all energized by zesty acidity. It leaves a coating of sweet liquid florals, ripe blackberries and hints of vanillin oak, while tapering off long and lightly tannic. What the 2018 lacks in power it makes up for with lovely concentration and sheer drinkability. That said, this will enjoy a lovely evolution over the next decade or more. Vinous 93 2022-08-11
2018 Perusini Colli Orientali del Friuli Cabernet Franc The zesty 2018 Cabernet Franc blends savory herbs with hints of mocha and crushed blackberries. It’s soft and round in feel, with savory dark red fruits and spices carried across saline-tinged minerals, creating a tantalizing expression upon the palate. This tapers off long with salted licorice and violet tinged florals, as well as a hint of cracked peppercorns. The 2018 Cabernet Franc is a more immediate wine, yet with the balance to please. 2017 Perusini Picolit Colli Orientali del Friuli Exotic tropical florals, peach preserves, hazelnuts and sweet cream waft up from the 2017 Picolit. Its silken, weighty textures find wonderful balance through bright acids and salty minerals, even as ultra-ripe orchard fruits drench the palate in concentration. Peach and sweet melon form, along with inner florals, as the 2017 displays beautiful balance, coming across as spicy yet ripe in style, and it leaves the mouth watering with a slight bump of residual acids that linger. Simply breathtaking. Vinous 94 2022-08-11
2017 Andrea Oberto Barolo The Andrea Oberto 2017 Barolo del Comune di La Morra is subdued on first nose, with a classic approach of dark fruit, dried currant, cherry confit, spice and tar. Compared to many of the wines from this challenging vintage, this expression from the Oberto family is more graceful and polished overall, although that extra power and the alcohol content (measuring 15%) do not go unnoticed. As such, you'll want a nice cut of beef and a heaping side of roasted potatoes with this. Production is 19,000 bottles. Wine Advocate 90 2022-08-10
2021 Jean-Marc Burgaud Beaujolais 'Les Vignes de Lantignie' Now labeled as the 2021 Beaujolais-Lantignié rather than as Beaujolais-Villages, with a view to further foreground its Lantignié origins, this cuvée is once again a notable success. Offering up aromas of smoky berries, spices and petals, it's medium-bodied, supple and seamless, with lively acids and a charming, giving profile. Wine Advocate 91 2022-08-08
2021 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Grands Cras Notes of wild berries, plums, smoked duck and orange rind introduce the 2021 Morgon Grands Cras, a medium to full-bodied, ample and succulent wine that's supple and sensual, with lively acids and a saline finish. It's another wine that shows the lighter vintage at its best. Wine Advocate 92 2022-08-08
2021 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Les Charmes The 2021 Morgon Les Charmes has also turned out nicely, revealing aromas of wild berries and plums mingled with sweet spices and soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with supple tannins, lively acids and a giving, charming profile, it lives up to its name. Wine Advocate 91 2022-08-08
