The 2018 Merlot is smoky and intense, pulling you close with black currants, sage and crushed ashen stone. A lifting florality develops in the glass with time. This is a round and pliant expression, with masses of red and blue berries contrasted by brisk acids and penetrating spice that adds a more tactile feel toward the close. It tapers off long and lightly structured, leaving violet and lavender to linger. Give the 2018 a short stay in the cellar to come fully into focus. It’s a beauty.
