Ca' Furlan |
Prosecco Extra-Dry 'Cuvée Beatrice' |
With a personality (and a mouthfeel) as frothy as taffeta, this fine value weaves white flowers around aromas of banana, honeydew, and the pear that reverberates on the palate along with golden apple. Nevermind the brunchtime juice mixers: It's charming enough on its own come apéritif hour. |

See Saw |
Sauvignon Blanc/Marsanne 'SAMM' |
Orange wine from Australia. Justin and Pip Jarrett of See-Saw have made cool-climate organic wine for 25 years. And they make all kinds of cool wines from sparkling Chardonnay to skin-contact Gamay and Pinot Noir. And of course, this type of experimentation leads to orange wine. Smelling this blend of skin-contact Sauvignon Blanc and Marsanne is fun. You get a waft of grilled pineapple and a freshly sliced vanilla bean. The palate is refreshing with good acidity. There is some sediment in the bottle but don’t let that scare you, it's just part of the wine. |

Trabun |
Syrah 'Soloist' Cachapoal Andes, Requinoa |
The earthy 2014 Syrah is from the Trabun vineyards in Requinoa, in Cachapoal. It has a more austere character, as it was from a cooler zone, with notes of graphite and is closer to the texture of a Bordeaux than a Northern Rhône but with the aromatics of a Syrah. It's a serious red for aging in bottle. It matured in second use oak barrels for 15 months, and the oak is nicely folded into the wine. 4,600 bottles were filled in July 2015. |

Syrah 'Soloist' Cachapoal Andes, Requinoa |
The flagship wine here is the 2015 Syrah, a very pure, clean, varietal and defined example of how the grape can develop in Cachapoal. It's a little reticent and took some time to unfurl the varietal aromas of smoky bacon, violets and tar, always in a harmonious and elegant way. A great Syrah, with good freshness in a warmer vintage. I look forward to tasting the 2016 next time. 3,350 bottles were filled in July 2017. |
