2017 Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Aromas of spring flowers, plums, cassis, orange rind and wood smoke introduce the 2017 Morgon Côte du Py, an ample, full-bodied wine with juicy acids, fine tannins and excellent concentration, its largely concealed structural chassis only asserting itself on the long, tangy finish. The most incipiently complex member of Burgaud's Grands Cras, Charmes and Côte du Py trio, it will reward a few years of patience. Wine Advocate 93 2018-10-03
2017 Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Grands Cras The 2017 Morgon Grands Cras is one of the highlights of Burgaud's range this year, wafting from the glass with a lovely nose of wild plums, cassis, cracked black pepper and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and fine-boned, its supple tannins concealed in a juicy and concentrated core of fruit. Burgaud opted to bottle the Grands Cras earlier than usual this year: maybe that's why the wine shows such super energy? Wine Advocate 93 2018-10-03
2017 Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Les Charmes From a parcel planted in 1933, the 2017 Morgon Les Charmes bursts with scents of cherries, candied peel, grilled meat and ripe plums. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and succulent, with fine-grained but youthfully chewy structuring tannins and a generous core of fruit. A couple years of cellaring is recommended—Burgaud advocates between 2 and 5 years. Wine Advocate 91 2018-10-03
2017 Jean Marc Burgaud Regnie Vallieres The 2017 Régnié Vallières is a great success, exhibiting a deep bouquet of plum preserve, potpourri and cassis. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy but vibrant, with bright acids, a pure core of fruit and melting tannins, concluding with a flavorful finish. This is especially successful this year and well worth seeking out. Wine Advocate 91 2018-10-03
2016 Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Burgaud's 2016 Morgon Côte du Py is pure and expressive, bursting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums, red berry preserve and rose petal. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, tangy and deep, with a cool, juicy core of fruit and a long, fragrant finish. It's racier and more elegant than the 2017 rendition, but they're on the same qualitative level. Wine Advocate 93 2018-10-03
2016 Domaine Yves Cheron Les Dentelles Cotes du Rhone A blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, the 2016 Cotes du Rhone les Dentelles offers blueberry and mulberry flavors, a full-bodied palate with a ripe, creamy feel and a long, supple finish. A beautifully ripe and succulent red wine, it should drink well for 5-6 years. Wine Advocate 91 2018-10-03
2016 Le Cadeau Diversite Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Polished and generous, with expressive raspberry and plump blueberry flavors accented by orange zest and spiced cinnamon notes, lingering toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2024. 175 cases made. Wine Spectator 92 2018-10-02
2017 Domaine Jean Royer Chateauneuf du Pape - Prestige Lastly, lots of black cherries, earth, peppery herbs, and graphite notes emerge from the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Prestige. It has more density than the Les Sables de La Crau, is medium to full-bodied, has ripe tannins, and plenty of length. It’s another character-filled, expressive wine from Jean Marie Royer. 2016 Marziano Abbona Rinaldi Barbera d' Alba Lots of blue fruit with licorice and walnut character. Medium-bodied, juicy and delicious. Drink now. James Suckling 91 2018-10-01
2015 Roucas Toumba Vacqueyras Les Restanques de Cabassole The 2015 Vacqueyras Les Restanques de Cabassole got a few expletives in the notes and is a terrific wine that’s up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Loaded with notions of black raspberries, cassis, toasted spice, garrigue and hints of chocolate, this beauty is full-bodied, concentrated and layered, as well as elegant. With superb tannin quality and a great finish, it’s going to continue drinking nicely for a decade or more. Jeb Dunnuck 94 2018-10-01
