2022 Annesanti Umbria Bianco 'Colle Fregiara' Masses of exotic florals combine with dried apricots, sour melon and fermented ginger as the 2022 Bianco Colle Fregiara blossoms in the glass. Texturally deep, it flows across the palate with silken waves, displaying honeyed pit fruits offset by savory spice. Raw almonds contrast with candied limes as the 2022 tapers off long and staining. A salty mineral tinge adds gobs of complexity. This is a Trebbiano Spoletino that ferments and refines the whole berries for ten months in amphora. For fans of the style, this is not to be missed. Annesanti continues to overperform. Vinous 94 2024-10-11
2022 Annesanti Umbria Bianco 'Acqua della Serpa' The 2022 Bianco Acqua della Serpa is a veritable florist shop on the nose, complicated by fermented ginger, tangerine and green melon. This reverberates with zesty tension while displaying soothingly round textures as a cascade of mineral-drenched orchard fruits saturates. Sour citrus appears toward the close. It finishes with staining length and an herbal-tea-like concentration, leaving the palate dry and perfectly refreshed. The Bianco Acqua della Serpa is an amphora-aged blend of Trebbiano Spoletino, Malvasia, Martone, Pecorino and Grechetto. Vinous 93 2024-10-11
2023 Morgan Chardonnay 'Highland' Santa Lucia Highlands The 2023 Chardonnay Highland is ample and lively, opening with an uncomplicated nose of golden apple, nectarine and savory herbs. A nicely measured inner sweetness makes this approachable and easy to like. The 25% new oak is skillfully integrated, adding a spicy kick through the focused finish. Well done. Vinous 90 2024-10-11
2019 Verbena Brunello di Montalcino Lots of dried fruits with dried black cherries and figs as well as dried rosemary followed by intense notes of roasted coffee beans and vanilla. Full-bodied with round tannins. A hint of mushroom in the aftertaste. Minerally and ripe. Needs a few more years to come out. Better after 2026. James Suckling 91 2024-10-11
2022 Plani Arche Grechetto The 2022 Grechetto is distinctly savory in style, as stone dust gives way to crushed almonds, dried flowers and traces of nectarine. This reveals its inner sweetness on the palate, crisp and pure, with ripe orchard fruits and honeyed inner florals. A salty sensation lingers, contrasted by confectionary spice. Baked pear nuances slowly taper off. While many of the descriptors in this note may lead the reader to believe that this is a rich and powerful wine, the real magic is in its lift and grace. What a beautiful Grechetto. Vinous 92 2024-10-11
2021 Plani Arche Montefalco Rosso The 2021 Montefalco Rosso is a total pleasure to take in, blending crushed raspberries with sage and cloves. Pine shavings add a lovely lift. It splashes across the palate with an energetic blend of tart cherries and autumnal spice. A core of vibrant acidity adds an abundance of energy throughout. The 2021 puckers the cheeks, leaving edgy tannins and a cranberry tartness that keeps the mouth watering for more. Plani Arche’s Montefalco Rosso is impossible to ignore, blending 60% Sangiovese with 25% Barbera and 15% Sagrantino. This is great on its own, but it would also excel at the dinner table. 2019 Plani Arche Montefalco Sagrantino The 2019 Montefalco Sagrantino is dark and brooding, with a smoldering blend of cherry sauce, grilled herbs and dark chocolate forming its bouquet. It floods the palate with textures of pure velvet, weighty yet refined and polished in feel. A dense wave of ripe red and black fruits slowly saturates. Youthfully monolithic, yet with complexities lurking beneath the surface, this finishes staining, structured and long with a pleasantly bitter tinge that lingers on. All of the right components are in place for the 2019 to enjoy a long maturation, but patience will be required. Vinous 94+ 2024-10-11
2022 Plani Arche Grechetto 'Gordito Orange' Orange verging on amber in color, the 2022 Grechetto Gordito slowly evolves with a pretty blend of baked apples, incense, mint and chamomile. This reverberates with zesty tension as a wave of liquid florals combines with vividly ripe pears and hints of gingery spice. Its acidity maintains fantastic freshness even as the 2022 finishes dry and gently tannic. Masterfully done. The Grechetto Gordito was refined on its lees in stainless steel for six months.
