2015 Pietro Caciorgna Pietro Caciorgna Ciauria Etna Rosso A ripe red showing rose petals, crushed blueberries and hints of vanilla. Medium to full body with silky and soft tannins. A balanced and pure finish. Delicious now. Why wait? James Suckling 93 2018-07-16
2015 Pietro Caciorgna Guardoilvento Etna Rosso Wonderful aromas of blueberries, raspberries and plums. Hints of light caramel, too. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a precise, vertical finish. I like the texture and the tension here. Needs time to soften. Drink or hold. James Suckling 94 2018-07-16
2016 Bodegas Jorge Ordonez Nisia Las Suertes This bold white is full-bodied and exuberant, with exotic flavors of pineapple, mango and coconut that stretch out on a rich frame, but remain firmly supported by juicy tangerine acidity. Atypical but has depth and balance. Drink now through 2022. 1,000 cases made. Wine Spectator 92 2018-07-06
2015 Bodegas Jorge Ordonez-Montsant Zerran From a 22-acre vineyard owned by the Bodegas Ordoñez, the 2015 Zerran is a blend of old-vine Carignan, Syrah and Grenache and aged ten months sur lie in Burgundy and Bordeaux barrels and bottled unfiltered. It has an earthy, mineral nose of wet slate/pebbles intermixed with black cherry and blacker fruits, as well as hints of truffle and loamy soil notes. It is followed by an outstanding wine with terrific richness, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and noticeable, but well-integrated tannins. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. 2010 Ramirez de la Piscina Gran Reserva Heavily roasted aromas of gamy berry fruits, herbs and coconutty oak settle on charred. This wine is bulky and a touch stewed and soupy in feel. Oaky flavors of chocolate, baked berry and cassis end with chocolaty oak on a finish that's heavy and lacking in verve. Drink through 2024. Wine Enthusiast 90 2018-07-06
2017 Col Vetoraz Cartizze di Valdobbiadene DOCG This wine is a bright star in a large sea of commercial Prosecco that floods foreign markets. You should look out for Col Vetoraz. Their 2017 Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze Dry is spectacular. The bouquet offers fragrant tones of white peach, crushed oyster shell and garden rose. The effect is lovely. This Cartizze sparkler tickles the palate with soft and foamy effervescence. There is soothing sweetness on the delicate and elegant finish. Some 39,000 bottles were made. This is a great value offering. Wine Advocate 92 2018-07-06
2016 Two Hands Bella's Garden Shiraz Complex, opening with a distinctive floral note of dried lavender that adds an aromatic lift to the polished blackberry, cherry and black pepper flavors. Dark, dense and concentrated at the core. Details of spice, vanilla and clove mingle on the finish. Drink now through 2028. 5,500 cases made. Wine Spectator 93 2018-07-05
2016 Two Hands Samantha's Garden Shiraz Fresh, with clay and herbal overtones to the black cherry, raspberry and currant flavors, showing precision, along with floral and black tea accents. Drink now through 2028. 700 cases made. Wine Spectator 93 2018-07-05
2017 Quintay Clava Syrah Casablanca Valley Masses of cranberry and cassis fruit and great freshness. Some real structure on the powerful but sleek and elegant palate. Very good to drink now, but probably more complex and satisfying in 2019. James Suckling 91 2018-07-05
2015 Chateau Viranel Saint Chinian Tradition Rouge Twenty percent of Viranel's 2015 Saint Chinian Tradition spent a year in oak (the rest stayed in tank for its élevage), so there's no obvious oak flavor in this blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 10% Carignan and 10% Mourvèdre. Instead, it delivers raspberry and cherry fruit, the merest hints of thyme and rosemary and a touch of star anise. Drink this medium to full-bodied, supple wine on the fruit over the next few years.
