2019 Bodega Cuarto Dominio Blancat Vineyard Selection This is the first Gualtallary wine from here and shows the personality of the region. Medium-to full-bodied, round and delicious. About 10% carbonic maceration here. No wood. Drink now. James Suckling 92 2020-04-03
2018 Traslapiedra Tinto Paraje Altamira This has an attractively fresh, floral nose with light, red-berry aromas and leafy, sappy notes, too. The lacy palate carries light, crunchy and tart red-berry flavors in a detailed and fine-cut style. Delicious, light red. Drink now. James Suckling 92 2020-04-03
2018 Elia Palazzesi - Collelceto Rosso di Montalcino Bright red. Refined and delicately expressive, with violet and mineral nuances nicely complementing red fruit aromas and flavors. Sneaky concentration here and excellent length. Vinous 91 2020-04-02
2015 Elia Palazzesi - Collelceto Brunello di Montalcino Deep red-ruby. Earth tones and herbs dominate the nose at first, slightly suppressing the violet and red cherry aromas underneath. Precise and expressive, this sleeky built Brunello offers mostly blue fruit and delicate spice flavors that linger elegantly on the risingly tannic, long finish. Vinous 92 2020-04-02
2018 La Fiorita Rosso di Montalcino Vivid red. Aromas of violet, red berries and herbs on the inviting nose. Balances fresh juicy red fruit flavors with more savory echoes of allspice and herbs. Lingers nicely on the bright finish. Made from the estate’s youngest Sangiovese vines, La Fiorita first made a Rosso di Montalcino only in the 2014 vintage. Vinous 90 2020-04-02
2015 La Fiorita Brunello di Montalcino Deep red with ruby tinges. Violets, flint, herbs and a note reminiscent of carbonic maceration on the nose and in the mouth. Chunky and currently monolithic in the mouth, with saline and savory strokes on the clean, medium-long finish. A smooth, easygoing Brunello that offers early accessibility and appeal, if not mind-boggling complexity and size. This is the first vintage to be entirely aged in used 25-36hL used Slavonian and French oak barrels (in other words, no barriques) and the first to be entirely made by the new consultant winemaker, Maurizio Castelli. Though it’s pleasant to drink right now (like many 2015 Brunellos are) I suggest cellaring this to allow for further development and complexity. Vinous 91+ 2020-04-02
2015 Verbena Brunello di Montalcino Le Pope Good full red. Musky, tangy red berries, minerals and violet on the bright nose. Then juicy and vibrant, with palate-staining ripe red and blue fruit flavors complicated by mint and sweet spices. Showcases distinctly suave tannins on the not exceptionally long finish. Very nicely done. Vinous 91 2020-04-02
2010 Alain Brumont - Chateau Montus Madiran The nose is swathed in black fruits, but there’s a rich herbal quality too. Very ripe and juicy, this has concentration and sucrosity without jamminess. It’s taut and spicy, shows good acidity and ample power, though perhaps at the expense of finesse. Decanter 91 2020-03-27
2009 Alain Brumont - Chateau Montus Prestige Madiran Even after ten years, the colour remains opaque red. There’s a wealth of plum and black-cherry fruit on the nose, with a perceptible oakiness and a chocolatey tone. Suave and very rich, it shows depth and spice and immense concentration, but it’s balanced by high acidity that keeps it taut. Powerful and long. Decanter 93 2020-03-27
2009 Alain Brumont - Chateau Montus La Tyre Madiran Impenetrable red in colour. The nose is lush and damsony, with a seductive richness of fruit. Velvety and very concentrated, it nonetheless exhibits vivid acidity and spice. The rather high alcohol gives a peppery finish, and a long bitter-chocolate finish. Perhaps too much of a good thing, but undeniably impressive. Decanter 93 2020-03-27
