Vijariego |
The red 2022 Vijariego Negro was produced with grapes from their own vines. It fermented with 30% full clusters in concrete and matured in 1,500-liter oak foudre and 500-liter oak barrels for 10 months. The reds have a creamy profile, as all the wood was new in 2022. It has more black than red fruit, different from the Vijariego elsewhere. It has plenty of tannins, more than usual (at least in other zones) that are going to require time in bottle. In future vintages, the oak should be less marked. 2,600 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023. |

Brut |
The 2018 Brut Vintage, a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, spent over three years on lees. It opens with the scent of green apples and leads into a creamier notion reminiscent of fresh apple crumble. The palate is exquisitely light and juicy, fragrant with apple and lemon and alive with foamy fine bubbles. The beautifully slender body highlights the predominance of Chardonnay in this light-footed delicious wine. Light bright juicy and wonderfully balanced. (Lot: L42722) |

Blanc de Blancs |
The 2018 Brut Blanc de Blancs spent over 36 months on lees. It opens with a nose full of the savor and brightness of white summer berries and fruit framed with lemon. The palate reveals the fullness of the 2018 vintage, with generous fruit that gives this light-footed Chardonnay exquisite ripeness. Frothy fine bubbles enhance the freshness and reveal a subtle chalkiness. This is bright, refreshing and beautifully long. (Lot: 42732) |

Luigi Tecce |
Campania Rosso 'Puro Sangue' |
The 2018 Aglianico Puro Sangue R18 is hauntingly dark and perfumed, as a smoky blend of flowery underbrush and savory herbs gives way to steeped plums. It’s soft-textured and lifted in feel, showing the finesse of the vintage with brisk acidity and mineral-drenched red fruits that flow throughout. This finishes long yet surprisingly fresh, with a coating of gritty tannins that resonates without hindering the 2018’s lively persona. The Puro Sangue R18 is not to be missed. It shows the mark of the season, yet the hands-off Tecce style has allowed the vintage to speak beautifully through this wine. |

Sauvignon Blanc |
The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is juicy, bright, grassy, green and a little vegetal, with a profusion of white flowers, nashi pear and lemon barley. In the mouth, the acidity is crunchy, making for pert, fresh drinking. I was recently in Brisbane visiting my family, and my Nanna loves this wine—we consumed quite a bit of it over that week, and I can confirm it is a suitable match to the warm and humid Brisbane weather. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. |

Chianti Classico Riserva ‘Poggio a’ Frati’ |
The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio a'Frati is quite imposing in its first impression. Black cherry, gravel, incense, tobacco, licorice, menthol and dried herbs confer somber intensity, an impression reinforced by the wine's imposing tannins. I would give this a year or two in bottle to soften, but even so, readers should expect a virile Riserva for the dinner table. |

Intense aromas of crushed blueberry, clove and violets dominate the nose of this wine. The fleshy but not overpowering palate brings more spicy blue fruit, black pepper and a lovely streak of acidity that buoys the entire affair. Drink with barbequed ribs or chops. |
