2019 Clos Alivu Patrimonio Rose Niellucio Bright onion skin color. Incisive, mineral-accented strawberry, peach and orange zest scents are complemented by a suave lavender flourish. Silky, seamless and focused on the palate, offering vibrant red berry and citrus fruit flavors and a sweetening touch of honey. Finishes impressively long and seamless, with a lingering pit fruit quality and strong mineral cut. Vinous 92 2020-11-02
2018 Bhilar Tinto' The village red 2018 Bhilar was a bit shy and serious after the explosive Graciano, but this vintage has an extra touch of nuance, complexity and freshness that comes through as serious and elegant while remaining easy to drink. The palate is juicy and medium-bodied, the tannins chalky and very fine. Wine Advocate 91 2020-11-02
2018 Bhilar Struggling Vines Phinca Hapa Blanco' The amber colored 2018 Phinca Hapa Blanco is 82% Viura, 12% Garnacha Blanca and 6% Malvasía from a large vineyard in the village of Elvillar. It fermented with carbonic maceration and was kept with the skins for 60 days until it was pressed and put in a 2,700-liter oak foudre, where it matured for one year. This has the profile of a full orange wine—the color, nose and tannic palate with 14% alcohol and notes of honey, quince, peach and beeswax—and with the texture and mouthfeel of a light red. Very orange. 3,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2019. Wine Advocate 92 2020-11-02
2017 Bhilar Struggling Vines Phinca Hapa Tinto' I tasted the 2017 Phinca Hapa Tinto from bottle, as the last time I had tasted it from cask, and it's as good as anticipated. It's a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Viura with a shorter élevage than the majority of reds here, one year in 500-liter barrels and 10 months in a large foudre. It's perfumed and expressive with a mix of wildflowers and berries plus some notes of iron and cured meat and spices. It's medium to full-bodied and reveals fine, chalky tannins and a long finish with focused and clean flavors. I like it very much. 6,000 bottles produced. Wine Advocate 94 2020-11-02
2016 Bhilar Phinca Abejera' The 2016 Phinca Abejera has the balsamic and herbal aromas I always find in this bottling: a touch of beeswax, pinecones, eucalyptus and sweet spices that make it resemble a Barolo Chinato. There's plenty of cinnamon, cola nut and nutmeg; it's very spicy and showy. The fruit is ripe and the wine has 14.5% alcohol, so it's medium to full-bodied with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. It's a blend of Tempranillo and Viura matured in new 225-liter French barriques for three years. It has mellow acidity and a velvety mouthfeel after such a long time in barrel. 1,300 bottles were filled in September 2019. Wine Advocate 94 2020-11-02
2016 Bhilar Bodegas Garnacha 'Phinca El Vedao' The one pure Garnacha is the 2016 Phinca El Vedao, which has a dark profile, closer to the earthiness of Priorat than the light from Gredos. There are notes of leather, licorice, fountain pen ink and black fruit. There are some fine tannins remaining, but they have been mostly polished by the 30 months the wine spent in 400- and 500-liter oak barrels. It's meaty and a bit chewy, with ripe fruit and a bitter twist in the finish. 3,060 bottles were filled in December 2019. Wine Advocate 92 2020-11-02
