2018 Domaine Alain Voge Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes While not submitted to my tasting (and it wasn't presented from barrel last year), it would be hard to imagine there won't be a Les Vieilles Fontaines cuvée. Don't miss a chance to buy a bottle if you find one. Moving to the 2018 Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes, this beauty is cut from the same cloth as the Les Chailles yet is deeper and richer, with another level of concentration. Black and blue fruits, ground pepper, violets, smoked game, and loads of spring flower notes define the bouquet, and it has a vibrant, almost old school vibe that carries plenty of power yet still stays light and elegant on the palate. This beautiful, singular wine is open and enjoyable today, yet I wouldn't be surprised to see it close down with a year or two of bottle age. It should see its 20th birthday in fine form. 2018 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph 'Cuvee Meribets' Old school notes of ripe red and blue fruits, spring flower, smoked game, and pepper all define the 2018 Saint Joseph Meribets. These carry to a beautiful Saint Joseph with a terrific sense of focus and purity, good tannins, and integrated acidity. This vibrant 2018 is pure class, and I'd be thrilled to drink bottles any time over the coming 10-15 years. It should be a screaming value. Jeb Dunnuck 93 2020-11-19
2019 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph 'Cuvee Meribets' Leading off the 2019 barrel samples, the 2019 Saint Joseph Meribets is a juicy, vibrant 2019 offering lots of red and blue fruits, violets, pepper, and sappy herbs. Cut from the same cloth as the 2018, it’s a vibrant, juicy, and just classic Northern Rhône Syrah to enjoy in its first decade. Jeb Dunnuck 90-92 2020-11-19
2018 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph 'Cuvee Muletiers' Slightly richer yet still playing in the same style, the 2018 Saint Joseph Muletiers reveals a ruby/plum color as well as classic notes of spiced red and black fruits, leather, ground pepper, and hints of spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins and a beautiful texture, this is another terrific wine readers should snatch up. It should be slightly longer lived than the Meribets cuvée. 2019 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph 'Cuvee Muletiers' Mulberries, currants, spice, and peppery herb notes emerge from the 2019 Saint Joseph Muletiers, another rich, full-bodied wine from this estate. I like its tannins, it has an expansive texture, and it should have 10-15 years of longevity. Jeb Dunnuck 91-93 2020-11-19
2018 Domaine Vallet Condrieu Rouelle-Midi Looking first at the 2018 Condrieu Rouelle-Midi, it offers a beautiful Viognier nose of ripe tangerines, honeyed peach, and flowers. Rich, medium to full-bodied and textured, it stays lively and balanced, with a clean finish. It's a terrific Condrieu. Jeb Dunnuck 92 2020-11-19
2015 La Fiorita Brunello di Montalcino 'Fiore di NO' This ripe red is balanced, with cherry, plum, berry and floral notes showing nuances of black pepper, iron, earth and tobacco. Firm, dense and fresh, featuring a long aftertaste of fruit, spice and tobacco. Best from 2024 through 2042. 260 cases made, 100 cases imported. Wine Spectator 94 2020-11-17
2015 La Fiorita Brunello di Montalcino 'Fiore di NO' Deep red. Captivating aromas of red cherry, strawberry, sweet pipe tobacco, and flint. Impressively built, multifaceted and layered, this boasts very pure and round flavors similar to the aromas. The finish is long and dense, and features polished tannins and a suave texture. Knockout Brunello, probably the best I have had from La Fiorita in a very long time, and likely ever. Noticeably less floral than the 2015 classico Brunello from this estate but more complex and much deeper. Made with grapes taken from the best part of the Pian Bossolino and Poggio al Sole vineyards. The NO on the label stands for Natalie Oliveros, the estate owner; a real knockout, this wine is only made in the best vintages. Vinous 95 2020-11-17
2018 Michael Pozzan Cabernet Sauvignon 'Rutherford Road' Napa Valley Michael Pozzan makes this wine in a plump, rich style. Oak aging has smoothed out the tannins, which have the juiciness of fresh-pressed cherry skins, but that time in wood has not diminished the violet scents or the tobacco notes of the fruit. Pour it with grilled sausages. Best Buy. W&S Best US Cabernets & Blends Wine & Spirits 91 2020-11-16
2017 Pursued by Bear Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley This wine has impressive old-vine pedigree, with fruit from Weinbau, Dubrul, Champoux and Dionysus. Posh from the outset, it’s like a baby Bordeaux in its scent, with notes of cedar, mint, tobacco, tarragon and plum. The flavors are streamlined and elegant, guided by a generous complement of oak - 30 months, 100 percent new, Taransaud barrels - that will need time to integrate. Cellar.
