2015 La Fiorita Brunello di Montalcino 'Fiore di NO' A special 3,200-bottle release culled from a selection of Sangiovese from their Pian Bossolino and Poggio al Sole plots, the La Fiorita 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Fiore di No is a very convincing wine that offers much more depth and complexity than the estate's classic Brunello. The wine opens to dark fruit, spice and camphor ash and then shows a very complete, wide-brush-stroke approach to the grape. You get the dark primary fruit, the depth and the length on the mouthfeel. 2017 Ilurce Graciano 'Rio Mazos' Blackberry and blueberry aromas with hints of lavender. Full-bodied with firm, polished tannins and attractive vanilla, chocolate and berry at the finish. A little young now, but delicious already. Better after 2021. James Suckling 93 2020-10-14
2018 Ilurce Graciano 'Rio Madre' Blueberries and blackberries, as well as black olives on the palate. It’s perfumed and pretty. Full bodied, chewy and juicy wine. Attractive center palate of ripe fruit. Needs time to soften. Try after 2021. James Suckling 92 2020-10-14
2018 Di Giovanna Nero d'Avola 'Vurria' Vurria Nero d’Avola shows an excellent aromatic expression and a mix between enveloping softness and expressive flavor. From the first sip it shows balance and elegance, a truly unique profile that only a rigorous, quality cultivation can produce. NDA Nero D’Avola Guide 97 2020-10-09
2017 Beauchene Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Grande Reserve' Loads of black raspberries, herbes de Provence, ground pepper, and gamey nuances emerge from the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Grand Reserve. This medium to full-bodied, textured, layered red has tons of charm, beautiful balance, and the ability to evolve and drink nicely for 10-15 years. Jeb Dunnuck 91 2020-10-08
2017 Beauchene Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Vignobles de la Serriere' Darker notes of black cherries, currants, peppery herbs, and earth emerge from the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vignobles De La Serriere, and it’s another beautifully complex, Provençal wine from this team. With plenty of mid-palate depth, the sweet, ripe, silky tannins of the vintage, and a great finish, it’s another Châteauneuf du Pape that’s ideal for drinking over the coming decade. 2018 Domaine du Pegau Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee Reserve' Not yet bottled, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Réservée continues to show beautifully and is a soft, charming example of this cuvée that’s going to drink nicely right out of the gate. Loads of blackcurrants, peppery herbs, bloody meat, and violet notes emerge from the glass and it’s medium to full-bodied, has a seamless, elegant texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It reminds me of an improved 2014, and despite its upfront appeal, it’s going to evolve nicely for 15 years or more. This estate has a long track record of off vintages aging and drinking beautifully far longer than anyone would predict, and I’m sure the same will be the case with the 2018. 2017 Domaine du Pegau Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee Reserve' Lastly, and tasted from bottle, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Réservée showed brilliantly, with the beautiful, Provençal character of the vintage as well as classic Pegau notes of red and black currants, smoked herbs, cured meats, new leather, and ground pepper all front and center. More in the style of the 1999 or 2005 than say the 2007 or 2009, it’s medium to full-bodied, has beautiful concentration, ample structure and tannins, and a focused, backward mouthfeel that’s going to benefit from bottle age. This beauty will evolve for 30 years or more. Jeb Dunnuck 95 2020-10-08
2011 Valderiz Tomas Esteban' A luxurious wine, with black cherry, dark chocolate, clove and pepper. Well rounded with a promise of future refinement in bottle, the wine lingers in the sensorial memory after tasting. The aromatic precision is impressive. Made from the minute yields of an old vineyard, farmed with much care. A unique combination of fruit and age, exclusive to the best vineyards in Ribera and only the best vintages, one of which is 2011. Drink 2020-2041 Decanter 96 2020-10-07
2017 Domaine du Pegau Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee Reserve' This is dark and winey, with a serious core of steeped fig, black currant and blackberry fruit that shows broad shoulders. A second wave of warm paving stone, bay leaf and tar strides in on the finish, resulting in a powerful swath of fruit and earth in the end. A bit of patience is needed here. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2023 through 2037. Wine Spectator 95 2020-10-07
