An expansive, heady bouquet displays scents of candied dark berries, licorice, violet pastille, woodsmoke and minerals; smells like a wine from the northern Rhone. Sweet, penetrating and seamless on the palate, offering vibrant blackberry and cherry-cola flavors and suggestions of bitter chocolate and candied licorice. Deep cherry and dark berry flavors are framed by supple tannins and gain a mineral lift on the finish. Takes on more breadth and power with air without losing its focus. 2018	Domaine du Pegau	Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee Reserve'	The 2018 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée is full-bodied but quite approachable and easy to drink, loaded with black cherries and plummy fruit and tinged with licorice. 2014	La Perla	Valtellina Superiore 'La Mossa'	Representing half of the estate’s 20,000-bottle annual production, La Mossa is crafted from grapes picked in mid-October, after those destined for Sforzato but prior to the late-harvest selection for the Riserva. The 2014 sports a slim, elegant build. Evocative notes of sage, pine, black tea and moss grace the nose, with truffles and red currants joining in on the palate.
