2020	La Fiorita	Rosso di Montalcino	The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is darkly alluring, lifting from the glass with a bouquet of crushed violets, blackberries and smoke. Its silky textures soothe all that they touch, as ripe red and black fruits settle upon the senses. 2020	Domaine Alain Voge	Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes	Concentrated and polished with good energy, offering a core of sweet black cherry, singed tobacco, wood spice and mulled plum, all wrapped around a spine of iron. This hefty red reveals incense and violet, and though the tannins aren't too grippy, this still needs time for its tightly wound layers to unfurl. Best from 2025 through 2035. From France. 2013	Alain Brumont - Montus	Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Blanc Sec	A blend of petit corbu (80 percent) and petit manseng, this wine ferments and ages in 600-liter demi-muids, and it’s a rich, savory beauty: Deep golden florals, aged-cheese umami and dried-apricot flavors make it immediately pleasurable. 2017	Alain Brumont - Montus	Madiran	The steeply-sloped vineyards at Montus face south and southwest, the vines planted in pebbly, well-draining soil. Eighty percent tannat (the rest cabernet sauvignon), this is a hefty but restrained wine, with richness in the dried-blueberry and bay-leaf flavors. 2020	Alain Brumont	Cotes de Gascogne Blanc	Equal parts gros manseng and sauvignon blanc, this is a wine of surprising length, especially for $12. 2019	Donati	Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles	A lovely meaty cabernet sauvignon showing some cocoa powder to the blackberries and tobacco, with a splash of graphite and roasted red chili pepper. Lots of ultra-ripe and powdery tannins that give it a powerful yet hedonistic sensibility. Hints of iron in the finish. Just short of some crunch. 99.9% cabernet sauvignon and 0.1% petite sirah. 2019	Donati	Red Blend 'Claret' Paso Robles	Pretty glossy and generous with some white pepper, dark chocolate, blackberries and tobacco. Savory plums, too. Rich and flavorful with dusty tannins on the medium-bodied palate. Quite resolved and savory with some vanilla spices looming in a medium-long finish. Generous in the end. 48.9% cabernet sauvignon, 39.3% merlot, 5.3% malbec, 5.3% petit verdot and 1.2% cabernet franc. Nicely mature. Drink now.	James Suckling	90		2022-11-21
