Sauvignon Blanc Arroyo Seco |
Vibrant nose tips you off right away that you are dealing with the Musqué clone in this fine bottle from Morgan. It shows the floral side of what’s possible from the clone, but it doesn’t get carried away with itself by going overripe or over creamy. It keeps bright acid pop and a beautiful grassy note that offsets the melon, citrus and nectarine notes. This is at the top of its list of competitors at this price, and it will be joining my summer arsenal. |

Cotes du Crows' Monterey |
This always satisfying blend of 62% Grenache, 29% Syrah, 5% Tempranillo and 4% Cinsault begins with aromas of dark-cherry compote, root beer and star anise, proving rather complex while still fresh. Roasted cherry and hickory-smoke flavors give a warm angle to the sip, where savory charcuterie and fig flavors also arise. |

A lovely Rhone-style blend that is a combination of 62% Grenache, 29% Syrah, 5% Tempranillo and 2% Cinsault that is aged for 10 months in 7% new French oak barrels with the rest neutral. Black raspberry, blue plum, ground white pepper, and a touch of smokey meat create a wine with medium body, medium tannins and a warm, solid finish. Enjoy this wine now or over the next 4-5 years. |

Unoaked Chardonnay 'Metallico' Monterey |
Tightly woven aromas of lime pith, Meyer lemon, chalk and jicama draw the nose into this unoaked bottling. There’s a firmly stony expression on the palate, giving a mineral edge to the honeysuckle and riper apple flavors. |

Unoaked Chardonnay 'Metallico' Monterey |
Unoaked Chardonnay can be a bit of a curiosity domestically. A few producers, like Morgan, find it to be a fine alternative to the other horses in the stable, so they give it its due attention. This vintage gets at the tropical side of the variety without getting sweet, showing papaya along with pineapple and nectarine. If you think you don’t like Chardonnay, you might find out that it’s the wood treatment you don’t like when you try this wine. |

G17 Syrah |
Saturated ruby. Black raspberry, cherry and a building floral nuance on the spice-accented nose. Broad, fleshy and seamless in the mouth, offering juicy dark berry and floral pastille flavors that are complemented by hints of licorice and cola. A smoky quality appears on the gently tannic finish, which lingers with very good tenacity. 18% new French oak. |
