Trabun |
Syrah |
A very bright syrah from the outset with notes of orange rind, citrus, black pepper and crushed slate. Medium body, very vibrant acidity, a blue-fruited core, and a mineral finish. Drink now. |

Bright ruby. Mineral- and spice-driven red fruit and floral aromas show very good clarity and pick up a hint of succulent herbs with aeration. Lively and focused on the palate, offering subtly sweet raspberry and lavender pastille flavors that unfurl steadily on the back half. In a nervy style, with no excess fat and a long, red berry-dominated finish that's framed by silky, even tannins. |

Beaujolais Villages 'Château de Thulon' |
Vivid magenta. Vibrant red berry and spicecake scents are complemented by suggestions of underbrush and candied lavender. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet cherry and raspberry flavors that turn darker and deeper on the back half. Silky tannins sneak in on a very long, spice-tinged finish that leaves a note of candied flowers behind. This wine is showing cru-level complexity and persistence. |

Morgon Les Charmes |
Deep ruby. An expansive, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red/blue fruits, exotic spices and incense, and a suave floral nuance gains power as the wine opens up. Silky, penetrating and energetic on the palate, offering vibrant boysenberry and strawberry flavors supported by a strong undercarriage of juicy acidity. Shows excellent clarity and minerally tension on the finish, which hangs on with outstanding tenacity. |

Morgon Cote du Py |
Brilliant violet color. Powerful, smoke-accented black raspberry and cherry scents, along with suggestions of minerals and potpourri. Densely packed but surprisingly lithe dark berry, cherry and spicecake flavors show excellent clarity and become sweeter as the wine stretches out. Smoothly plays power off of elegance and finishes with impressive thrust and supple, slow-building tannins. |

Du Beur Dans Les Pinards Beaujolais-Villages |
Limpid red. Displays intense, highly perfumed red berry, blood orange, spicecake and floral scents, with a mineral flourish that gains strength as the wine stretches out. Silky and weightless in the mouth, offering juicy strawberry, bitter cherry and lavender pastille flavors that take a sweeter turn on the back half. Closes very long and nervy, with resonating spiciness and florality and no tannins that I can find. This wine was made from vines once owned by Jules Chauvet, the founding father and guru of whole-cluster, minimal-intervention winemaking in Beaujolais who profoundly influenced many of today's leading winemakers of the region such as Lapierre, Foillard, Thévenet, and Chamonard. |

First Things First |
A new cuvee from Dan Kravitz, the 2015 Maury Sec First Things First is a blend of 60% Grenache, 22% Carignan and 18% Syrah that had 75% of the crop brought in at the “correct” time, and 25% brought in over a week later due to broken equipment in the cellar. Scheduled to be bottled in August or October, it offers sensational notes of black raspberries, cassis, violets and graphite as well as full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannin and an undeniable sexiness that makes it already impossible to resist. Count me a fan and I’d suggest breaking more equipment during harvest in the future as well (or just harvest later). |

Cuvee Silex Sec |
This is a beautiful, ripe, honeyed wine. Produced from organically grown grapes, it has richness as well as a touch of spice from partial oak aging. The wine will age further to give a sumptuous richness from 2019. |
