Etichetta Nera Merlot |
Dark ruby with inky strokes. Ripe dark plum, smoke and coffee on the nose. Clean and nicely balanced in the mouth, offering hints of coffee and cocoa that add complexity to the ripe, dark fruit flavors present. Finishes with building minerality and relatively smooth tannins. |

Good full ruby-red. Spicy aromas of blueberry, licorice and herbs. Then bright deep but quite suave, with lovely lift to the Refosco-driven violet, licorice and peppery flavors. Lightly structured and long on the aftertaste. |

Cabernet Sauvignon |
Moderately saturated ruby. Aromas and flavors of dark fruit, cedar, graphite and minerals. Clean, fresh and rather politely-styled for a Cabernet Sauvignon from FVG, this finishes long and lively. Refined and offering good mid-palate fat already, but a few years in the cellar will help it expand further. This is really quite good. |

Perusini |
Cabernet Franc |
Luminous red-ruby. Strawberry, cedar, black pepper and violet on the nose and in the mouth. Light and lively but blessed with sneaky concentration and impeccable acid-fruit-tannin balance, this closes long and perfumed. Not a behemoth but nuanced and scented. A lovely Cabernet Franc that offers early appeal and accessibility. |

Perusini |
Picolit |
Deep, reddish-gold color. Honeyed nuances complement the noble rot-accented ripe tropical fruit, fresh citrus, yellow peach and fig aromas; very pure and penetrating nose, a light touch of volatile acidity adds freshness. Then very complex and precise in the mouth, with refreshing and clean flavors of ripe papaya, lemony mango, dried apricot, cinnamon, acacia honey and guava nectar. Closes extremely long, pure and vibrant with enticing sugar-acid balance (220 g/L r.s and 6,5 g/L total acidity). The grapes were 100% hit by botrytis cinerea and were selected via four passages through the vineyards, but only the grapes of two of those passages were used to make this wine. Aged in a mix of 112 liters French oak barrels and stainless steel this is a work of art. In fact, it’s one of the best Picolits I have had in a long time. |

Bodegas Bhilar |
Struggling Vines Phinca Hapa Tinto |
David Sampedro grew up in Rioja Alavesa, naming his estate winery for the village where his vineyards are based (Bhilar is the Basque spelling of Elvillar). He and his American wife, Melanie Hickman, farm the vines organically, and abandoned tractors for a horse in 2014. This 2016 is mostly tempranillo, with six percent graciano, from a 7.2-acre parcel planted in 1967 on chalky limestone soil. The wine offers clean red-cherry fruit backed by firm, fine-grained tannins that lend it staying power. Notes of eucalyptus and mint suggest pairing it with grilled baby lamb. |

N'Anticchia Etna Rosso DOC |
Aromas of dried fruit, orange peel and stems with some flowers. Full body. Round, juicy tannins and a flavorful finish with just a hint of vanilla. Needs time to come together. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now, but better after 2020. |

Westmalle Trappist |
Tripel |
Brewed by one of the world’s 13 Trappist breweries, it doesn’t get more true-to-style than this classic Belgian brew. It pours a gorgeous golden color, with a frothy off-white head, like a glass of sunshine topped by a fluffy cloud. The nose is earthy, spicy and fruity, all in perfect harmony, with notes of baked apricot, banana bread, candied lemon peel, clove, browned sugar and peppery, yeasty spice. Despite the rich-smelling bouquet, the mouthfilling palate is dry and well-balanced by ample carbonation, dried tropical-fruit flavors and a touch of citrusy vibrancy. The lightly warming finish offers an abundance of baking and peppery spice tones that linger endlessly. |

Samuel Smith |
Nut Brown |
This iconic brown ale, from the family-owned Samuel Smith brewery, was introduced in cans in 2018, making it all the more easy to find and enjoy while out and about. It pours a rich mahogany brown color, with a solid beige head that shows good retention. The bouquet opens with enticing aromas of toasted malts, brown bread, caramelized brown sugar and warm hazelnuts. The medium-weight body is full and creamy in feel, with pleasant toasted nut and caramel malt flavors. A lightly bitter walnut flavor unfolds on the finish and lends a slight textural grip and dry sensation to the close, lifting the rich flavor profile and finishing clean. |
