2021	Silvano Bolmida	Barolo ‘Bussia Vigna dei Fantini’	The 2021 Barolo Bussia Vigna dei Fantini is all class. Aromatic and persistent, the 2021 builds in the glass, offering an explosive core of understated fruit in a mid-weight package that is so appealing. 2021	Silvano Bolmida	Barolo ‘Le Coste di Monforte’	The 2021 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte marries finesse with power to a degree I have not seen here in the past. Kirsch, blood orange, white pepper, chalk, rose petal and dried flowers convey brightness to play off the wine's structured, layered personality. All the elements are so well balanced. High class. Rich, complex and dynamic, the 2021 opens with macerated cherry, cinnamon, new leather, tobacco, incense and rose petal. 2017	Valderiz	Tomás Esteban	90% Tinta del País, 10% others. A blend from three plots in different villages: El Abuelo, Miguelón and Matallana. Clayey limestone soils with sand. Very low yields around 1,500 kg/ha. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in wooden vats. Malolactic conversion in barrels, then aged 30 months in new French oak barrels. Tasted blind. Mature and showing the classic Ribera del Duero style. Remarkable oenological work. Rich chalky tannins well coated and balanced with black fruits such as plum.
