2018 Nekeas Garnacha 'El Chaparral de Vega Sindoa' Coming from old vine Garnacha (60- to 130-year-old vines), the 2018 El Chaparral de Vega Sindoa has a Rhône-like perfume of spiced strawberry fruits, peppery herbs, dried earth, and incense. These carry to a juicy, medium-bodied Garnacha with a light, graceful texture, nicely integrated tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It's a terrific value that will evolve nicely for 3-5 years. Jeb Dunnuck 90 2020-11-04
2018 Jorge Ordonez Verdejo 'Nisia Looking first at the 2018 Nisia, which is all Verdjo brought up in neutral barrels, this lively yet concentrated white has a richer nose of salted citrus, honeyed minerals, and toasted spices. These a carry to a medium-bodied white with a layered mouthfeel, plenty of fruit, and a terrific spine of acidity. It's beautifully done, has a touch of background oak, and is going to shine on the dinner table. Jeb Dunnuck 91 2020-11-04
2018 Jorge Ordonez Verdejo 'Nisia Las Suertes' The 2018 Nisia Las Suertes comes from a single parcel of very old vines (it's 100% Verdejo) and was aged 14 months in barrel. Deeper, more complex notes of pineapple, quince, spice, and sappy flowers all emerge from the glass, and this medium to full-bodied beauty has a wonderfully layered, elegant mouthfeel, good acidity, and outstanding length on the finish. This is one seriously good Verdejo that's drinking great today yet should evolve gracefully for a number of years. Jeb Dunnuck 93 2020-11-04
2016 Ramirez de la Piscina Reserva 'Seleccion' The 2016 Reserva Selección (100% Tempranillo) has a juicy, classic Rioja bouquet of red and black fruits, saddle leather, cedary spice, and peppery herbs. It's medium-bodied, nicely textured, balanced, and just a complex, satisfying Rioja with lots of character. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years. Jeb Dunnuck 90 2020-11-04
2013 Ramirez de la Piscina Gran Reserva A solid step up over the Reserva, the 2013 Gran Reserva offers a terrific nose of red and black currants, toasted spices, chocolate, and cedary earth. Opening up nicely with time in the glass, this deep ruby/purple-hued effort is medium to full-bodied, has a focused, elegant texture, good acidity, and outstanding length on the finish. This classy, balanced, elegant Rioja will keep nicely for 7-8 years, if not longer. Jeb Dunnuck 90 2020-11-04
2017 Ilurce Graciano 'Rio Mazos' Based on 100% Gracian from old vines and two estate vineyards, the 2017 Rio Mazos sports a dense purple color as well as terrific notes of black and blue fruits, scorched earth, graphite, and an obvious sense of minerality. With subtle background oak, medium-bodied richness, silky tannins, and a great finish, this gorgeous Graciano has lots of character. It benefits from a decant today yet I suspect will keep for a solid 5-7 years, if you're so inclined. This cuvée was aged 12 months in 50% new French oak. Jeb Dunnuck 93 2020-11-04
