Rufete 'Phinca Encanto' |
The intensely varietal 2018 Phinca Encanto Rufete shows bright red berries and flowers and something earthy and rustic that I always find in Rufete. It has a medium-bodied palate with ripe fruit, some acid berry flavors and fine tannins. 2,670 bottles produced. |

Rufete Blanco 'Phinca Durmiente' |
The amber-colored white 2017 Phinca Durmiente Rufete Blanco has a strong influence from the skin contact, which gives it notes of quince paste, pollen and honey, and it had a long élevage in barrel. The palate reveals plenty of tannin and moderate alcohol as well as notable acidity. This is quite unique, variety and style. 1,500 bottles. |

Rufete 'Phinca Encanto' |
The 2017 Phinca Encanto Rufete shows a darker profile of aromas and earthier sensations than the 2018 I tasted next to it, but the varietal character emerged with time in the glass. It's slightly more rustic and has grainy tannins that call for food. 2,200 bottles were filled in the spring of 2020. |

Barolo Albarella |
A full-bodied red with sweet, ripe-plum and black-cherry aromas and flavors, together with hints of vanilla and crushed brazil nuts. The tannins are fine and firm, but provide no real barrier to the intense fruit flavors that push through the long finish. For that it’s tempting now, but better to wait two to three years. Try from 2023. |

Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata |
Needs air to bring out the deep, ripe raspberries, rich earth, sandalwood and floral notes. Full, round and very silky with very fine, firm but not chewy tannins and plenty of complex fruit flavor already flooding the long finish. Tempting even now, but wait at least until 2023. |

De Chiripa' |
Perfumed aromas of dried violet flank the glossy cherry, anise and leafy details in this well-crafted red. Elements of spice, dried orange peel and loamy earth round out the focused finish. Drink now through 2027. 1,000 cases made, 15 cases imported. |

Garnacha 'El Chaparral de Vega Sindoa' |
Deep garnet. Mineral-tinged cherry, raspberry, vanilla and exotic spice aromas show excellent clarity and take on a smoky nuance with air. Appealingly sweet and expansive on the palate, offering juicy red fruit, rose pastille and spicecake flavors energized by a minerally topnote. Shows impressive energy and florality on the persistent finish, which is given shape by polished, even tannins. |
