2019 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py The 2019 Morgon Côte du Py, bottled in July 2020 after aging in concrete, has an airy, much more floral bouquet than the Grand Cras, pressed iris petals and potpourri emerging with time. The medium-bodied palate delivers fine, edgy tannins, just the tight amount of bitterness and a cohesive, pure and peppery finish that lingers long in the mouth. Superb. Vinous 94 2021-08-30
2020 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py 'Javernieres' The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières was tasted from barrel and will be bottled in December/January 2021/22. There is fine intensity on the nose of layered blackberry, raspberry and blueberry fruit, but it is very tight at the moment, as you would expect. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, quite structured and a little more austere than the Côte du Py. This is a serious Morgan that deserves 3–4 years in bottle. Superb. 2019 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py 'Javernieres' Bottled in January 2021 after 12 months in barrel and four months in tank, the 2019 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières has a floral bouquet of violet and iris scents, plus touches of blood orange and iodine; hints of licorice emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied, very sensual, rounded and smooth, offering succulent ripe tannins and layers of black plummy fruit. That licorice note returns on the finish. Lovely, although personally, I prefer the Côte du Py this vintage. Vinous 92 2021-08-30
2019 Stel + Mar Cabernet Sauvignon Lodi The 2019 Stel + Mar Cabernet Sauvignon from Lodi, California is a stunning buy. If you like big, bold reds that drench the palate with a cashmere crush of complex fruit, this wine is for you. The entry calls to mind muddled blackberries laced with blackcurrant liqueur and a touch of creamy vanilla. Then the flavors veer toward dark chocolate, toasted nuts and roasted coffee that persist on the finish. This is a well-made Californian classic at an affordable price. Toronto Star 94 2021-08-27
2015 Plani Arche Montefalco Sagrantino A dusting of cocoa and smoke blows off to reveal balsam herbs, crushed black cherries and dark exotic spices as the 2015 Montefalco Sagrantino smolders up from the glass. Its opulent textures are like weighted velvet, yet quickly contrasted by tart black fruits and nervous acidity, becoming more savory, almost salty, with each passing second. A fine coating of grippy tannins comes forward through the close, tugging at the palate with youthful poise, as herbal-tinged blackberries, licorice and hints of cedar taper off. The 2015 is a towering Montefalco Sagrantino that will require a number of years to come into focus, but will be worth waiting for. Vinous 93 2021-08-25
