Mannucci Droandi |
Chianti Classico Riserva 'Ceppeto' |
There’s a pleasant, mushroomy edge to the ripe red fruit here. Notes of fine herbs and spice, too. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Some cedar and toasted herbs come through. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. |

Cornas Les Vieilles Fontaines |
A juicy, energetic version, with mouthwatering damson plum, cherry and blackberry coulis flavors darting through, accented by iron and white pepper hints. There's some floral lift on the finish that marries deftly with the fruit, as does the bright, chalky minerality. Best from 2023 through 2035. From France. |

Rocca di Castagnoli |
Chianti Classico |
Rocca di Castagnoli's 2019 Chianti Classico is supple, racy and wonderfully inviting. Succulent red cherry, tobacco, mint, dried flowers and licorice are some of the many aromas and flavors that open in the glass. Silky and pliant, with terrific depth, the 2017 has a lot to recommend it. This is very nicely done. |

Rocca di Castagnoli |
Chianti Classico Riserva ‘Poggio a’ Frati’ |
The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio a'Frati is a heady, expressive wine that is just showing a hint of its potential. More than anything else, I am impressed with the wine's energy and vibrancy, which was a bit hard to come by in 2017. Bright, saline notes lift a core of sweet red berry fruit, chalk, white pepper, mint, sage and dried flowers. The flavors are so vivid in this super eloquent Riserva from Rocca di Castagnoli. |

Stielle Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione |
The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Stielle takes all the signatures of the estate and turns up the volume, resulting in an ample, dramatic wine that hits all the right notes. Black cherry, mocha, lavender, spice and leather build into the intense, palate-staining finish. The 2017 is such a gorgeous and vivid Gran Selezione. Don't miss it. |

Rocca di Castagnoli |
Buriano Cabernet Sauvignon IGT Toscana |
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Buriano is another fabulous wine in this range from Rocca di Castagnoli. Powerful, ample and deep, the 2016 possesses tremendous density and textural richness from start to finish. As always, Rocca di Castagnoli presents a distinctly Tuscan expression of Cabernet. Inky dark fruit, lavender, spice and leather all build as the 2016 shows off its considerable charm. |

Nose of plum, fig and nectarine; hints of honey and pineapple on palate; nice commercial style. A finish with some life and panache. Silver Medal. |

Brut ‘Cuvee Alpha’ |
Orchard fruits, toasted brioche, nuts, cooked apple, pear, lemongrass and honey, all ringing with an urgency across saliva-inducing acidity and a whiff of lemon curd. Profound. Drink sooner rather than later. Gold Medal. |
