2020 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Grands Cras The 2020 Morgon Grands Cras comes from the southern part of the appellation, on the limit with Brouilly and Régnié, and was bottled two weeks prior to my visit. Perhaps because of that, the nose needed time to settle, although the palate is more expressive, fresh and tensile, with saturated tannins, a superb line of acidity and an edgy, mineral-driven finish. Tuck this away in a cellar for 3–4 years if you know what's good for you. Vinous 93 2021-08-30
2019 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Grands Cras The 2019 Morgon Grands Cras is more open on the nose because it was bottled later. It offers expressive brambly red berry fruit, granite, touches of undergrowth and a lovely touch of star anise with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and crisp, and quite saline in the mouth, leading to a beautifully proportioned finish. Sublime. Vinous 94 2021-08-30
2020 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py represents a blend of six hectares from around the climat, each with its own attributes. It has an intense bouquet of black cherries, black olive and saline notes, all very well defined with wonderful focus. The palate is medium-bodied with silky-smooth tannins, superb mineralité and a harmonious finish featuring black cherries, blueberry, blood orange and citrus fruit, full of nervosité and admirably persistent. Burgaud said that he had been advised to bottle the various plots separately, but I think this blend represents more than the sum of its parts. Vinous 94 2021-08-30
2019 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py The 2019 Morgon Côte du Py, bottled in July 2020 after aging in concrete, has an airy, much more floral bouquet than the Grand Cras, pressed iris petals and potpourri emerging with time. The medium-bodied palate delivers fine, edgy tannins, just the tight amount of bitterness and a cohesive, pure and peppery finish that lingers long in the mouth. Superb. Vinous 94 2021-08-30
2020 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py 'Javernieres' The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières was tasted from barrel and will be bottled in December/January 2021/22. There is fine intensity on the nose of layered blackberry, raspberry and blueberry fruit, but it is very tight at the moment, as you would expect. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, quite structured and a little more austere than the Côte du Py. This is a serious Morgan that deserves 3–4 years in bottle. Superb.
