2019	Domaine du Pegau	Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee Reserve'	The 2019 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée looks set to rival the best examples of this bottling. Made up of approximately 80% Grenache, with 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre and smaller amounts of other permitted varieties, it's impressively complex on the nose, with scents of black cherries, blackberries and black olives, plus mysterious wafts of violets and garrigue. 2019	Beauchene	Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Grande Reserve'	Beauchene's 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Grande Reserve delivers nicely balanced lavender and garrigue notes against a backdrop of black cherries and stone fruit. Grenache-dominated—there's 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah—it's full-bodied and lushly textured, finishing long and velvety, showing impressive intensity without excess weight or any sense of over-ripeness. 2019	Beauchene	Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Vignobles de la Serriere'	From a different sector of the appellation than the Grande Reserve, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Vignobles de la Serriere is a bit more fluid, red-fruited and silky than the estate's primary bottling. The blend is 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre, yielding a concentrated, full-bodied effort that's ripe and delicious, with an attractive hint of licorice on the finish. 2017	I Luoghi	Bolgheri Superiore 'Campo Al Fico'	Just 1,200 instead of the usual 3,000 bottles were produced in 2017 for Stefano Granata and his wife at I Luoghi, the top garagiste of Bolgheri. It's a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc aged for at least 18 months in 50% new French oak, without any Merlot and almost all 'sotto strada' (below the Bolgherese road). Campo al Fico shows an amazing nose full of spice, from clove to black pepper, then cola followed by cassis and pencil lead. It's almost 'Figeac' in style, showing earthy tones and firm tannins that flow over the mid-palate with a ripe finish, good freshness and relatively moderate 14% alcohol.	Decanter	95		2022-05-13
2017	I Luoghi	Bolgheri Superiore 'Podere Ritorti'	Podere Ritorti, the second wine of I Luoghi, is a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (80%) with 15% Cabernet Franc and a dash of Merlot and Syrah. In 2017, 'the sum of tannin and acidity was difficult to manage,' according to owner Stefano Granata. The wine is full of intensity and complexity with restrained cassis, ash, and balsamic minerality in depth. Clean and rich chocolatey flavours characterise the palate, joined by a sweeter cherry profile. Full, creamy and refreshing, this has crunchy tannins with a thick finish.	Decanter	92		2022-05-13
