2021	Barra	Chardonnay Mendocino	From first pour, the depth and complexity of this Chardonnay is immediately evident with pronounced aromas of ripe yellow and green apple, yellow peach and nectarine, cantaloupe and white and pink roses–dew-covered and warming in the morning sun. These fresh components are complemented by secondary notes of hazelnut, almond, vanilla and nutmeg. The palate doesn’t disappoint, providing the right amount of acid to uplift those fruits and add a refreshing center to this voluptuous white wine, leading toward a long finish. Editors’ Choice. 2020	Barra	Pinot Noir Mendocino	A pale ruby in the glass, hedging toward an elegant rouge around the perimeter. Initial aromas include red cherry, cranberry, wild raspberry, vanilla, toasted wood and a hint of forest floor. An uplifted acidity brings those fresh fruits to light on the palate–a palate that presents complementing spices of dried nutmeg and cardamom not initially sensed on the nose. 2021	Ocean Road	Sauvignon Blanc	This is a bright, pleasantly fruity SB with notes of peach, watermelon and pineapple, and with just a touch of something greener, like gooseberry. Acidity rushes in straight away on the palate, pulsing until the finish. There’s a slight chalky textural weight adding to the pineapple rind and peach fuzz flavors. Best Buy. 2018	Mas d'en Gil	Priorat Bellmunt Vi de Vila	A bright, medium-bodied red, with dried cherry and strawberry fruit enlivened by tangy orange peel acidity. Open-knit and accessible, with light, chalky tannins and aromatic accents of sweet smoke, red licorice, dried sage, toast and espresso crema. Chewy finish. Grenache and Carignan. NV	Bailly Lapierre	Cremant de Bourgogne 'Reserve'	Inviting, white floral and softly fruited nose. Delicate but well defined, with green apple, elderflower and peach touches on the palate. 2019	Mas d'En Gil	Bellmunt Vi de Vila'	The village red 2019 Bellmunt was produced with 65% Garnacha, 30% Cariñena and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and is very expressive, ripe with 14% alcohol and some herbal notes and very good freshness. 2018	Mas d'En Gil	Coma Alta'	The characterful, expressive and elegant single-vineyard white 2018 Coma Alta comes from a plot of barely one hectare of Garnacha Blanca that was planted in 2000 on clay and limestone soils and harvested early to keep good acidity. This is fresh and varietal with generous waxy apples, plenty of dried flowers, herbs and smoky and spicy notes from 50% of the volume spending nine months in 500-liter barrels. 3,968 bottles were filled in June 2019. 2016	Mas d'En Gil	Clos Fontà Vinyes Velles'	Even more impressive than the Coma Vella was the 2016 Clos Fontà, from one of their finest vintages ever. It has the character of the dusty roads from Priorat, the decayed slate and the Mediterranean forest, a polished palate with abundant fine-grained tannins, lively acidity and great balance. This should continue developing in bottle for a long time.
