Le Cadeau |
Pinot Noir 'Rocheaux' Chehalem Mountains |
Coming from the rocky western-facing blocks of the Le Cadeau Vineyard, the 2019 Pinot Noir Rocheaux emerges with notes of smoky incense, cedar, and cranberry. The palate is supple and inviting, with fresh raspberry, rose petal, and baking spice. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins, this charming wine will be a pleasure to drink now or over the next 5-7 years. |

The Immigrant' Red Paicines |
This blend of merlot with malbec, petit verdot and cabernet franc smells of consommé and dark-red cherries, with a fleshy middle and dusty finish. For barbecue. |

I Custodi |
Etna Rosso 'Pistus' |
I Custodi's entry-level red is the beautiful 2013 Etna Rosso Pistus with fruit sourced from various points on the north side of the volcano. The blend is a traditional cut of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio and the wine sees no oak aging. I loved the vibrant freshness and fruity concentration of this wine. It opens to a luminous dark ruby color and an ambitious bouquet with bramble, spice, wild fruit, licorice and dark mineral. There is little fruit as most of the bouquet is occupied by ethereal volcanic tones. Stylistically speaking, this wine shows austerity and a masculine approach with tight, firm tannins. Pistus is a stubborn, but ultimately charming Etna Rosso. |

Chardonnay Spring Mountain District |
The 2019 Chardonnay starts off with subtle notes of lemon drops and white peaches, giving way to scents of baking bread and honeydew melon. The medium to full-bodied palate has a pleasant oiliness to the texture and great freshness, lifting the stone fruit and citrus layers with a clean, lively finish. |

La Fiorita |
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva |
This cherry- and raspberry-flavored red is underlined by a saline note, with floral, eucalyptus, thyme and tobacco notes joining the party as everything plays out on the lingering, tightly wound finish. Shows energy and finds balance in the end. Best from 2026 through 2043. 266 cases made, 130 cases imported. |

La Fiorita |
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva |
Sweet berries and cherries with orange peel and hints of sandalwood. Medium to full body with firm, integrated tannins and a fresh, vivid finish. Firm tannins, but together and so delicious already. Give this two or three years to come around even more. Try after 2023. |

La Fiorita |
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva |
La Fiorita's 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva leaves a lasting impression that is due to the purity and the depth of aromas in part but is also due to the very high 15% alcohol. A little less alcoholic heat would be more conducive to the delicate and lifted aromas of Sangiovese. Fruit for the Riserva comes solely from the Pian Bossolino vineyard. This wine is instead all about brawn and muscle; as a result, you're best off serving it with a creamy dish like steak smothered in mushroom sauce. A mere 3,200 bottles are hitting the market now. |
