Garnacha Rose 'Rio Madre' |
Deep pink in the glass, this wine has aromas of strawberry, nectarine and jasmine. There is a feeling of weightiness on the tongue, with flavors of dried apricot, cantaloupe, thyme and rose petal. A bright citrus note appears on the floral-laced finish. Best Buy. |

Rose |
Steely and clean with watermelon and dried roses. Juicy, with tangerine zest leaving a sweetness behind on mid-palate. Dried herbs with white peach are well-balanced with a fine acidity. Pairs well with angel hair pasta in a light basil tomato sauce. |

Graciano 'Rio Madre' |
Very dark on the nose, with lots of raw spices, charcoal and some green peppercorns on top of the blackberries. Very full-bodied and spicy. Almost a bit monolithic, despite the fine-grained tannins. Quite a unique style. Drink in 2024. |

Andrea Oberto |
Barolo DOCG Rocche Dell 'Annunziata |
With fruit from La Morra, the Andrea Oberto 2015 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata reveals dark fruit character with summer cherry, dried currant, spice, tar and licorice. This wine shows a different inner engineering (compared to the Barolo Albarella) with more power and a more defined tannin backbone. The results are angular and edgy, and this Barolo definitely needs more cellar time to flesh out and soften. A mere 3,800 bottles were made. |

Andrea Oberto |
Barolo DOCG Rocche Dell 'Annunziata |
The 2015 Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata is floral and nicely lifted, with plenty of the perfumed, red berry notes that are so typical of this La Morra site. Silky tannins and mid-weight structure add to the wine’s gracious, lifted personality. Andrea Oberto's Barolos typically drink well with minimal cellaring, but the Rocche appears to still be recovering from its bottling a few months ago. I would give it a bit of time in bottle. |

Valderiz |
Tomás Esteban' |
After they skipped the 2013 vintage, the top of the range comes back with an impressive 2014 Valderiz Tomas Esteban, an homage to the winery's founder. It's produced with the grapes from an old family vineyard planted with Tempranillo and some 5% white Albillo. This has power, energy and finesse along with abundant, chalky and fine-grained tannins and all the ingredients and balance for a positive development in bottle. 4,000 bottles produced. |

Le Cadeau |
Pinot Noir 'Cote Est' Chehalem Mountains |
The 2019 Pinot Noir Cote Est Pinot Noir is from the cooler eastern-facing blocks of the Le Cadeau Vineyard and was raised for 11 months in 38% new French oak. It is expressive with the perfume of lavender, cinnamon, and sweet cherry. The spicy perfume continues on the palate, with notes of dried raspberry and herbs, medium body, and fine tannins. Drink 2022-2028. |
