2015 Roucas Toumba Vacqueyras Les Restanques de Cabassole The 2015 Vacqueyras Les Restanques de Cabassole got a few expletives in the notes and is a terrific wine that’s up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Loaded with notions of black raspberries, cassis, toasted spice, garrigue and hints of chocolate, this beauty is full-bodied, concentrated and layered, as well as elegant. With superb tannin quality and a great finish, it’s going to continue drinking nicely for a decade or more. Jeb Dunnuck 94 2017-10-20
2016 Domaine Yves Cheron Cuvee Jardina d'Eden Vacqueyras A special cuvée named after the winemaker, the 2016 Vacqueyras Yves Cheron is an impressive wine made from equal parts Grenache and Syrah. Completely destemmed and aged in concrete tanks, it boasts terrific notes of plums and black raspberry fruit intermixed with violets, flowers and spice. Medium to full-bodied, perfectly ripe, pure and elegant, I love its texture and would happily drink bottles over the coming 6-7 years. Jeb Dunnuck 90-92 2017-10-20
2015 Domaine Yves Cheron Cuvee Jurassique Gigondas The 2015 Gigondas Yves Cheron is also beautiful and is a slightly different blend of 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre raised in 30% new barrels (the Grenache was kept all in tank). Its deeper ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by traditional notes of saddle leather, sandalwood, Provencal herbs, and pepper. Medium to full-bodied, with fine tannin and a terrific sense of elegance, it’s another impressive wine from vigneron Yves Cheron. Jeb Dunnuck 90 2017-10-20
2015 Domaine Chante Perdrix Chateauneuf du Pape The 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a charming, elegant red the exemplifies this solid vintage. Kirsch, black cherries, spice, and garrigue notes all flow to an elegant, silky red that has fine tannin, medium-bodied richness, and no hard edges. It's beautifully balanced and well worth drinking. This cuvée is always a rough blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and the balance Mourvèdre from the lieux-dits of Gallimardes and les Serres. Jeb Dunnuck 90 2017-10-20
2016 Domaine Chante Perdrix Chateauneuf du Pape As to the reds, the traditional 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvée checks in as a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre and the balance Muscardin, destemmed and aged in foudre and older barrels. It over-delivers with its deep, rich bouquet of red and black fruits, pepper, garrigue, pepper and floral aromatics, full-bodied richness, a charming, layered textured, and sweet tannin. This is straight up classic stuff that has loads to love, and it going to drink well for 8-10 years easily. Jeb Dunnuck 90-92 2017-10-20
2016 Domaine Chante Perdrix Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Starting with the whites from Châteauneuf du Pape based Domaine Chante-Perdrix, both of which are outstanding, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is equal parts Grenache Blanc and Clairette that was brought up in 40% new barrels and the balance in stainless steel. Coming all from the Les Gallimardes lieu-dit, it’s a rich, textured, medium-bodied beauty that offers classic notes of buttered lemons, tangerine, and citrus. NV Champagne Jean Laurent Blanc de Blancs Brut Disgorged in 2016, the NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Réserve comes from four separate vineyards and spent 36 months on lees. It was finished with 6-8 grams per liter of dosage. It’s a rich, impressively textured Champagne that gives up classic orchard fruits, toasted nuts, and brioche. Made in a ripe, rounded, supple style, with a mouthfilling texture, it’s a rock-solid base Champagne that has plenty of fruit and texture. Jeb Dunnuck 91 2017-10-20
NV Champagne Jean Laurent Blanc de Noirs Brut The NV Brut Blanc de Noirs is slightly less expressive, with notes of apple peal and citrus in its elegant, balanced, pure profile. It has a dense mid-palate, plenty of heft and a rich, layered style. It lacks a touch of the layers found in the Brut Blanc de Blancs Réserve, but is beautiful nonetheless. This cuvee is 100% Pinot Noir, from five vineyards, and spent 30 months on lees. It was finished with 8-10 grams per liter of dosage. Jeb Dunnuck 90 2017-10-20
