The tannic structure comes through in the finale, clenching the palate firm with youthful poise, while leaving hints of plum under an air of violet-tinged florals. 2016 Verbena Brunello di Montalcino Riserva The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva opens to notes of cedar spice box, cloves, dusty dried florals and cherries. There’s a pliancy and inner sweetness here that soothes the palate, as mineral-tinged black fruits and hints of brown spice glide across its silky framework. Hints of tobacco, balsam herbs and dark, dark chocolate linger through the long and only lightly structured finale. 2016 Elia Palazzesi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva A mix of mulled cherries, roses and flowery undergrowth lifts up from the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. This is silky-smooth and pliant in feel, with notes of plum and balsamic spices that flesh out across the palate.
