2020 Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico Riserva 'Poggio a' Frati' Offering an alluring combination of ripe cherry, raspberry and currant fruit, Tuscan scrub and iron, this red is succulent and elegant, its supple texture offset by lightly chewy tannins. 2022 Quintay Pinot Noir 'Clava' Casablanca Valley Great value from Ximena Klein, this juicy, perfumed Pinot Noir has appealing rose petal and vanilla aromas, a palate of summer pudding fruit, a touch of granitic tension and supple, caressing tannins. Very drinkable. Tim Atkin 90 2024-07-22
2022 Domaine de Fondrèche Persia I loved the 2022 Ventoux Persia, a pure, vibrant Ventoux based on mostly Syrah with 10% Mourvèdre. Ripe black, red, and blue fruit, lots of peppery herbs, violets, and floral notes, medium body, beautiful overall balance, and ripe, integrated tannins all make for a gorgeous 2022 that will drink nicely right out of the gate. 2020 Domaine de Fondrèche Divergente The 2020 Ventoux Divergente also has more than a hint of Northern Rhône-like vibe in its black raspberry, flowers, smoked game, burning ember, and liquid violet aromas and flavors. Possessing incredible purity of fruit as well as medium to full-bodied richness, it has regal, polished tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. This needs plenty of air to show at its best, so I suspect it will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and show fabulously well over the following decade. Hats off to Sebastien Vincenti for another brilliant wine. Jeb Dunnuck 96 2024-07-16
2020 Bhilar Struggling Vines Phinca Hapa Blanco Strictly speaking a white wine, but as it spends two months on its lees it is listed here with the orange wines. This is an original style, aiming to deliver all the character from the grape skins into the wine by extending the maceration period. This results in a complex nose of dessicated fruit and wild herbs. Savoury on the palate, with a long finish. With time, this will develop greater complexity. Decanter 92 2024-07-16
2022 Domaine de Fondrèche Blanc AOP Ventoux Based on 30% each Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Clairette with 10% Rolle that saw an extended cold soak after pressing, the 2022 Ventoux Domaine is incredibly aromatic with its exotic citrus, pink grapefruit, white flowers, and chalky mineral-driven nuances. These all carry to a very fresh, medium-bodied, focused, undeniably delicious white that has good acidity, plenty of richness, and a great finish. It's a singular, exotic, incredibly perfumed white.
