2022 Trentadue OPR Red This wine is bright, lively with aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, cardamom spice, violet and dried herbs on the nose. The flavors on the palate are dried cherry, huckleberry, allspice and baked peach, gliding into dried bay leaf, espresso and a dry finish. Pair with smoked brisket. Best Buy. 2020 Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico Riserva 'Poggio a' Frati' Offering an alluring combination of ripe cherry, raspberry and currant fruit, Tuscan scrub and iron, this red is succulent and elegant, its supple texture offset by lightly chewy tannins. Shows excellent balance and length. Best from 2026 through 2043. Wine Spectator 94 2024-07-24
2022 Quintay Pinot Noir 'Clava' Casablanca Valley Great value from Ximena Klein, this juicy, perfumed Pinot Noir has appealing rose petal and vanilla aromas, a palate of summer pudding fruit, a touch of granitic tension and supple, caressing tannins. Very drinkable. Tim Atkin 90 2024-07-22
2022 Domaine de Fondrèche Persia I loved the 2022 Ventoux Persia, a pure, vibrant Ventoux based on mostly Syrah with 10% Mourvèdre. Ripe black, red, and blue fruit, lots of peppery herbs, violets, and floral notes, medium body, beautiful overall balance, and ripe, integrated tannins all make for a gorgeous 2022 that will drink nicely right out of the gate. 2022 Domaine de Fondrèche Blanc AOP Ventoux Based on 30% each Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Clairette with 10% Rolle that saw an extended cold soak after pressing, the 2022 Ventoux Domaine is incredibly aromatic with its exotic citrus, pink grapefruit, white flowers, and chalky mineral-driven nuances. These all carry to a very fresh, medium-bodied, focused, undeniably delicious white that has good acidity, plenty of richness, and a great finish. It's a singular, exotic, incredibly perfumed white. 2023 Dancing Crow Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Big Valley District Lake County Faint floral aromas get this off to a good start, with both citrus and white melon predominant on the palate, followed by a hint of underlying minerality on the finish. This offers welcome relief from the breed of American renditions of Sauvignon that try too hard for complexity and overshoot simple deliciousness. Tasting Panel 92 2024-07-16
2022 Domaine de Fondrèche Il Était Une Fois The 2022 Ventoux Il Était Une Fois is based on very old vine Grenache raised only in glass globes and amphora with 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre raised in new oak. It might be one of the greatest Grenaches to come from the Ventoux and offers an incredible bouquet of kirsch, black raspberries, spring flowers, and Provençal spices. With remarkable purity, fine tannins, and a great finish, don't miss it. Jeb Dunnuck 94-96+ 2024-07-16
2020 Bhilar Struggling Vines Phinca Hapa Blanco Strictly speaking a white wine, but as it spends two months on its lees it is listed here with the orange wines. This is an original style, aiming to deliver all the character from the grape skins into the wine by extending the maceration period. This results in a complex nose of dessicated fruit and wild herbs. Savoury on the palate, with a long finish. With time, this will develop greater complexity. Decanter 92 2024-07-16
2020 Domaine de Fondrèche Divergente The 2020 Ventoux Divergente also has more than a hint of Northern Rhône-like vibe in its black raspberry, flowers, smoked game, burning ember, and liquid violet aromas and flavors. Possessing incredible purity of fruit as well as medium to full-bodied richness, it has regal, polished tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. This needs plenty of air to show at its best, so I suspect it will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and show fabulously well over the following decade. Hats off to Sebastien Vincenti for another brilliant wine. Jeb Dunnuck 96 2024-07-16
2022 Dancing Crow Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Lake County The core virtue of this strong value Cabernet is its pure but punchy fruit flavors, which are so straightforwardly delicious that most tasters will be glad that oak isn’t more evident. The fruit shows a mix of black fruit tones along with less prominent red berry notes, and subtle savory accents lend additional interest. The grapes must have been picked at just the right time, as the fruit displays excellent balance with acidity and tannin. Tasting Panel 93 2024-07-16
