2012 Rocca di Castagnoli Poggi ai Frati Riserva New leather, blue flower, wild berry and a whiff of oak-driven spice lead the nose. The savory chewy palate offers mature black cherry, raspberry, star anise, clove and menthol while lithe tannins provide polished support. Drink through 2019. Wine Enthusiast 91 2017-01-24
2015 Keuka Spring Merlot Gorgeous rose, plum and bramble notes perfume this exceptionally fragrant Merlot. Its complexity extends through the palate with bright cherry and plum flavors bolstered by savory nuances of olive and dried herb. Crisp acidity and fine persistent tannins guide a long finish. Editors’ Choice. —A.I. Wine Enthusiast 91 2017-01-24
2014 Giovanni Chiappini Felciaino Aromas of ripe fruits, spices and currants follow through to a medium body, fine tannins and a clean finish. A little light but very enjoyable. Drink now. James Suckling 90 2017-01-12
2013 Giovanni Chiappini Guado de' Gemoli The 2013 Guado de' Gemoli, Chiappini's Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc blend, is a prototypical Bolgheri red. Flamboyant and generous, yet also super-refined, the 2013 is sumptuous and deeply expressive from the first taste. Raspberry jam, sweet spices and new French oak are front and center. The oak is a bit pronounced at this stage, but that is a relatively small critique for a wine that delivers the goods. Even with all of its natural intensity, the 2013 retains a good bit of freshness. Vinous 94 2017-01-12
2014 Le Cadeau PN Cote Est This is an irresistibly tasty wine, bursting with lovely berry and cherry fruits, soaked in deliciously decadent chocolaty barrel flavors. But it’s not that simple. Propped up with sufficient acidity, ripe tannins and a slight tilt toward earthy underpinnings, it offers compelling length and complexity also. Drink now through 2022. Editors’ Choice. —P.G. 2014 Le Cadeau PN Trajet Reserve From all-estate fruit, this dives into experimentation with 85% whole cluster fermentation and native yeast. The results are mixed, giving herbal and white pepper accents to the bright red-berry flavors, but putting a bitter edge on the tannins. A couple more years of bottle age would be a good idea. It’s too young to show its best at the moment. Wine Enthusiast 91 2016-12-23
2014 Domaine Pegau Cuvee Reservee Light, hazy yellow. Explosive, mineral-driven aromas of fresh pear, peach pit and white flowers carry a gingery background note. Stony, focused and pure on the palate, offering intense orchard fruit and citrus fruit flavors that become weightier with air. Clings with strong tenacity on the finish, which shows excellent clarity and a resonating floral note. Vinous 92 2016-12-14
2013 Dunham Trutina Following up the highly impressive 2012 Trutina, this Red Blend starts with aromatics of cassis, black plum, red cherry and hints of baking spices. There are medium to full bodied flavors of red cherry, red raspberry, vanilla and black olive. There is a lovely minerality and mouthfeel as this wine glides on the mid-palate. With nice structure and richness, I can see this cellaring beautifully into the next decade. (Best 2016-2028) International Wine Report 92 2016-12-01
