Chateau de Pampelonne |
Rose Cotes de Provence |
A single-estate bottling from the cave cooperative in Saint Tropez, the 2018 Cotes de Provence Rose Chateau Pampelonne is, simply put, superb. This concentrated but light to medium-bodied wine starts with notes of underripe citrus but slowly unfolds to show hints of cranberry, tart cherries, peach and citrus, together with a long, refreshing finish. |

Rose Coteaux d'Aix en Provence |
The terrific (and fairly priced) 2018 Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Rose stood out among the 139 rosés I tasted blind during my late February trip to Provence. It combines hints of cantaloup with cassis in a medium-bodied, silky-textured wine that shows just a hint of leafiness on the finish. The blend is 40% Grenache, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, and 5% Rolle. |

Calicanto Maipo Valley |
A pretty and savory red with dark berry and oyster shell. Some licorice, too. Full body, soft and layered tannins and a flavorful finish. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, carmenere, syrah, petit verdot and malbec. Drink now. |

Apremont Jacquere |
Offers more minerality as well as depth. Citrus, crushed rock, and green herbs give way to medium-bodied, beautifully textured, ripe, yet still racy and lively white. |

Rosso di Montalcino |
The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino shows a deep, healthy garnet color that is a site to behold. This wine is immediately attractive to all the senses, especially the nose. It offers intense but nicely measured aromas of wild berry, blueberry and dried raspberry. Beyond those primary fruit notes are territory-specific aromas of tar, potting soil and balsam herb. This is a classic Rosso di Montalcino. Some 10,500 bottles were made and you get terrific value here. |

Chento Vineyard Selection Malbec |
A striking mix of ripe blackberries, lemon peel and savory notes follow through to a high-structured palate with quite some depth. Serious tannins at the finish, but well-integrated. Drink or hold. |

Bodega Cuarto Dominio |
Chento Vineyard Selection Malbec |
The just-bottled 2017 Chento Malbec Vineyard Selection was sourced from three different plots of vines from La Consulta in the Valle de Uco. It fermented in four 10,000-liter concrete vats with indigenous yeasts, and 80% of the wine matured in oak barrels for ten months. It has a serious nose, with some varietal aromas of flowers and berries, a twist of spices and aromatic herbs and some smoke and toast from the oak. The palate reveals abundant, slightly dusty tannins and good balance. 38,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2018. |
