2018 Dunham Three Legged Red' The nose of this wine is loaded with aromas of savory herb, raspberry and cherry. The palate brings lush, fruit-forward flavors that deliver a big impact. It’s currently tight in tannins and bright in acidity, but has impressive stuffing for a wine at this price. Give it a short decant if drinking in the near term. Wine Enthusiast 91 2020-09-15
2018 Lafond Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills Clean and toasted aromas of warm croissant with lemon preserves meet with a chiseled chalk minerality on the nose of this bottling. There is great grip to the sip, where rounded flavors of Asian pear, creamy apricot and sea salt are simultaneously soft and tense. Wine Enthusiast 93 2020-09-15
2016 Dunham Cabernet Sauvignon 'XXII' Columbia Valley The coffee, cherry, dark chocolate, vanilla, mushroom and fresh herb aromas provide appeal. The palate brings juicy, plentiful cherry and barrel spice flavors, with brawny tannins backing it all up. Coffee notes linger on the finish. It has a nice yum factor and a long life in front of it. Wine Enthusiast 91 2020-09-15
2017 Chocalan Red Blend 'Vitrum' Maipo Valley Savory, spicy berry and herbal aromas are smooth and round. This Cabernet Sauvignon blend benefits from a well-built palate with structure. Plum, wild berry and herbal flavors soften up on a ripe and lightly oaky finish with chocolate and lasting herbal notes. Wine Enthusiast 90 2020-09-15
2019 Clouston & Co. Sauvignon Blanc This Sauvignon was fermented and aged on its lees in a concrete egg and finished in old French oak. A heady, perfumed combo of orange, lemon, lime and honeysuckle leads on the nose. The effect of the winemaking on the palate is profound. Layers of texture—both chalky and creamy—are lifted by vibrant acidity and tangy fruit. A refreshing and balanced drop with a charming personality. Wine Enthusiast 90 2020-09-15
2018 Paritua Syrah This Hawkes Bay Syrah is reminiscent of the Northern Rhône, but with the bright fruit of the New World. Red and black currants marry with aromas of ground pepper, graphite, crushed violets and a suggestion of grilled barbecue fare. The medium-weight palate is balanced and approachable, made in a drink-now style that offers all the flavors of the nose wrapped in a silky-textured yet powerful package. Editors’ Choice. Wine Enthusiast 93 2020-09-15
2016 Stone Paddock Syrah This is a muscular Syrah that comes in at an agreeable 13% alcohol. It’s a bit shy at first but after plenty of swirling opens into a nose of tangy berry fruit backed by black olives, cracked pepper and lovely stony mineral and sanguine characters. There’s a good lick of toasty, spicy oak on display here as well. The palate is dense, a gauzy layer of tannins over plush fruit and oak-derived spice. While this lacks some vibrancy and tension, it’s nonetheless a solid drop for big red wine lovers. Wine Enthusiast 91 2020-09-15
2015 Paritua Red Blend '21.12' 2015 This is a big-boned, plush Bordeaux-style blend housed in a disappointingly heavy bottle. What’s inside, however, is classic Hawkes Bay, complete with aromas of brambly berries, graphite, dried herbs, black olives and crushed violets. There’s a glossy, cola-oak sheen as a backdrop. The palate is a well of velvety fruit and granular, herb-flecked tannins. There’s a touch of alcohol heat and toasty oak, but overall this is a sturdily structured wine meant for the long haul. Drink through 2035. Cellar Selection. Wine Enthusiast 93 2020-09-15
2016 Stone Paddock Red Blend 'Scarlet' This Hawkes Bay Bordeaux-style blend, dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, opens energetically. Lively ripe berries spill from the glass, backed by sappy, savory nuances: olives, tree sap and scrubby herbs. The oak is neatly tucked away. There’s muscle to the palate but a lovely lift of acidity that adds purity to the tangy red currant fruit. Taut, textural tannins add layer in a wine that is straightforward yet harmonious. Drink now with charcuterie or until 2028. Editors’ Choice. Wine Enthusiast 92 2020-09-15
2017 Alain Brumont - Bouscasse Madiran From the home estate of Madiran’s guru Alain Brumont, the wine is a rich blend of Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Still so young but with great potential, it is a ripe, black fruit and spice flavored wine, a fine summation of greatness in Madiran. The tannins are still dense and the wine needs plenty of time. Drink from 2024. Cellar Selection Wine Enthusiast 94 2020-09-15
