Lily's Garden |
Exuberant, this bursts with clove, toasted coconut and dark chocolate flavors that are thick and velvety, complementing the kirsch notes at the core. A hint of fresh mint adds complexity. Generous, with a finish that goes on and on. Drink now through 2027. |

Valderiz |
Tomas Esteban |
The 2009 Valderiz Tomas Esteban comes from a biodynamically cultivated vineyard populated by vines between 80 and 100 years, subsequently aged in new French oak for 24 months. It has a tightly wound, floral bouquet with macerated black cherries, crushed violets and a touch of vanilla. The palate is full-bodied with plush, rounded red berry fruit interlaced with dried herbs and spices, hints of clove toward the finish that is very persistent. This is another superb wine from Valderiz, but it requires 3-5 years in bottle. Drink 2015-2025. I was very impressed by the wines of Bodegas y Vinedos Valderiz: mostly Ribera del Dueros with character, precision and vivacity. These are well worth seeking out. |

Aubichon |
Pinot Noir |
Rich round cherry fruit, lightly infused with tobacco highlights, introduces this delicious wine. There is a pleasing softness to the palate, without it being in any way flat or flabby. The fruit seems more mature than the young vintage would suggest, and it’s drinking more like a wine from half a decade ago, which means you don’t need to cellar it to get cellar-style flavors. Pie cherry, orange peel and even a touch of pineapple peeks through the lingering finish. Editors’ Choice.—P.G. |

Pinot Noir Riverside Vineyard |
Light at first, almost delicate, this pretty wine has strawberry and pomegranate fruit, gentle herbal highlights, and tannins that taste of green tea. The finish turns a bit astringent, with a lick of cola. Give it some hours of aeration and it fleshes out, with a lush mix of tart fruit and milk chocolate barrel flavors. |

Sangiacomo Chardonnay |
Salty on the palate, this medium-bodied wine is focused in tension and nervy freshness, with a generosity of complex fruit. Lime, pear and fig ride a cool-climate wave of orange peel that lifts the underlying density and concentration at work in this vintage. —V.B. |
