Barolo ‘Le Coste di Monforte’ |
The 2021 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte marries finesse with power to a degree I have not seen here in the past. Kirsch, blood orange, white pepper, chalk, rose petal and dried flowers convey brightness to play off the wine's structured, layered personality. All the elements are so well balanced. High class. |

Dogliani San Luigi |
Abbona's 2024 Dogliani San Luigi offers up crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, mint, blood orange, game, spice and incense. This perfumed, mid-weight Dogliani is mostly about floral notes and forward fruit. It’s a wine that is not trying to be too much, something it pulls off in style. |

90% Tinta del País, 10% others. A blend from three plots in different villages: El Abuelo, Miguelón and Matallana. Clayey limestone soils with sand. Very low yields around 1,500 kg/ha. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in wooden vats. Malolactic conversion in barrels, then aged 30 months in new French oak barrels. Tasted blind. Mature and showing the classic Ribera del Duero style. Remarkable oenological work. Rich chalky tannins well coated and balanced with black fruits such as plum. This fruit also gives a lingering sensation in the aftertaste. Cedar, tobacco, cigar box and elegant clean leather. |

Cabernet Sauvignon Mt Veeder |
The 2022 Meadowcroft Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt Veeder shows a luminous ruby core edged with a lighter red hue. Aromas of dried rose petal, blackberry preserves, cherry cordial, red licorice, and toasted spice mingle with sandalwood. The palate carries dark plum, cassis, and subtle lavender tones, framed by firm, dusty tannins and lifted acidity. Medium to full-bodied, it is structured and tightly wound, needing time to soften. A wine with depth and promise, it should show its best starting in 2026. |
