2017 Alain Voge Saint Joseph Les Cotes I loved the 2017 Saint Joseph Les Côtes from Voge, which has a classic yet ripe, textured style that's a joy to drink. Lots of blackberries, plums, peppery, and floral notes all give way to a medium-bodied Saint Joseph that has good acidity, moderate tannins, and a layered, elegant style. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years. Jeb Dunnuck 90-92 2018-12-21
2017 Alain Voge Cornas Les Chailles As to the Cornas releases, the young vine cuvée from Voge is the 2017 Cornas Les Chailles, which spent 18 months in used barrels. It's a pure, beautifully layered, ripe example of the vintage that has rock star purity in its cassis, blackberry, crushed rock, and crushed violet aromas and flavors. It has some leesy notes which should disappear by the time it's bottled, medium to full body, a rounded, layered texture, and a great finish. Jeb Dunnuck 92-94 2018-12-21
2016 Alain Voge Cornas Les Chailles Leading off the Cornas releases, the 2016 Cornas Les Chailles is a wine that always delivers pleasure. It offers an exotic bouquet of violets, black and blue fruits, gamey meats, incense, and bouquet garni. It's medium to full-bodied, rich, beautifully textured, and layered, with the charm to drink today and the balance and class to keep for a decade or more. It's a rich, powerful Cornas from 2016. 2016 Alain Voge Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes The 2016 Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes is similar in style to the Vieilles Fontaines, just slightly less concentrated. It comes from the Combe, Patou, La Côte, Les Mazards and Chaillot lieux-dits and is partially destemmed and brought up mostly in neutral barrels. Lifted notes of black and blue fruits, damp earth, spring flowers, and violets all emerge from this full-bodied, concentrated yet elegant red that stays balanced on the palate, with good acidity. It's another powerful, seriously endowed, pedal-to-the-metal Cornas that will have two decades of longevity. Jeb Dunnuck 95 2018-12-21
2016 Alain Voge Saint Joseph Les Cotes Moving to the 2016s from bottle, the 2016 Saint Joseph Les Côtes has a fabulous perfume of rose petals, blueberries, spring flowers, and sappy underbrush. On the palate it's fresh, medium-bodied, and elegant, with a silky style that puts on weight with time in the glass. It will benefit from a year of bottle age and drink well for 6-7 years. 2017 Domaine Vallet Condrieu Rouelle Midi White flowers, tangerine, and citrus notes all emerge from the 2017 Condrieu Rouelle Midi, another charming, forward, juicy 2017 that's beautifully done. With medium-bodied richness, good acidity, and a clean finish, it's ideal for drinking over the coming 2-3 years. Jeb Dunnuck 91 2018-12-21
2016 Domaine Vallet Condrieu Rouelle Midi The 2016 Condrieu Rouelle-Midi was brought up in mostly in tank, with just 30% in barrel. This light gold-colored effort has obvious minerality and salinity in its white peach, tangerine peel, and floral aromas and flavors. Nicely textured on the palate, with good acidity and a medium-bodied mouthfeel, it's beautiful today yet should keep for 3-5 years as well. Jeb Dunnuck 91 2018-12-21
2016 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph Cuvee Meribets The 2016 Saint Joseph Meribets is terrific, with a beautiful sense of elegance and finesse in its fruit and tannins. Blackberries, plums, peppery herbs, and light mineral notes all flow to a medium-bodied, silky wine that has good acidity, tons of upfront charm, and no hard edges. It's well worth a multi-bottle purchase and will drink nicely for 5-7 years. This wine was completely destemmed and spent 10 months in used barrels. Jeb Dunnuck 90 2018-12-21
2016 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph Cuvee Muletiers Aged 16 months in barrels, the 2016 Saint Joseph Muletiers is a slightly deeper, richer wine. Black currants, cassis, crushed violets, leafy herbs, and peppery notes all emerge from this elegant yet textured beauty that has medium to full body, ample mid-palate density, and sweet tannins. It's a fabulous Saint Joseph to drink over the coming 8-10 years. Jeb Dunnuck 93 2018-12-21
2016 Chiappini Felciaino Dark plums, dried herbs, licorice and a touch of vanilla. There’s very pretty fruit and acid tension to enjoy on the full-bodied palate, which sports round tannins. Drink now. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and sangiovese. James Suckling 92 2018-12-20
