2014 Ramirez de la Piscina Seleccion Reserva The 2014 Selección Reserva is a solid step up over the 2015 and offers more intensity and complexity in its black cherry, currants, smoked earth, graphite, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. It has some classic American oak influence, medium body, good acidity, and should keep for 8-10 years. Jeb Dunnuck 91 2019-09-09
2015 Ramirez de la Piscina Seleccion Reserva The 2015 Selección Reserva is in the same mold as the 2014 and has more richness and depth, with rocking notes of blackberries, plums, graphite, licorice, lead pencil, and incense. It's another elegant, medium-bodied, nicely textured red from this estate that has good purity, fine tannins, and a great finish. Jeb Dunnuck 91 2019-09-09
2011 Ramirez de la Piscina Gran Reserva The 2011 Gran Reserva is all Tempranillo spent a full two years in American and French oak. This deeply colored effort offers terrific smoky dark fruits, leather, graphite, and some cigar notes. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has beautiful density, building tannins, and a great finish. This is a rich, concentrated, classic Rioja with loads of character. Jeb Dunnuck 93+ 2019-09-09
2016 Bodegas Sierra Salinas Mira Salinas Also 100% Monastrell but a selection of old, head-trained vines, the 2016 Mira Salinas was brought up in a mix of new, once-, and twice-used barrels. Its deep ruby/plum color is followed by a Bandol-like bouquet of smoked black fruits, earth, meat, and spice. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has beautiful fruit, good acidity, and plenty of tannins, and it's a classic, balanced Monastrell that more than over-delivers at the price. These are custom cuvées for Jorge Ordonez that are only brought into the US. Jeb Dunnuck 93 2019-09-09
2018 Jean Marc Burgaud Beaujolais Les Vignes de Lantignie There are fully 27,000 bottles of Burgaud's 2018 Beaujolais-Villages Les Vignes de Lantignié, a superb wine that bursts from the glass with an expressive bouquet of cherries, mulberries, smoked meats and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with juicy acids, good concentration and a flavorful finish. This saw a mere seven days maceration, and the resulting wine represents incredible value. Wine Advocate 92 2019-09-05
2018 Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py The 2018 Morgon Côte du Py derives from both higher-altitude and lower-lying parcels, and it is a great success this year, offering up a lovely bouquet of dark fruits, cherries, smoked meat and licorice. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and layered, with a fleshy and concentrated core, fine girdling tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long and sapid finish. 2018 Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Grands Cras Aromas of rose petals, raspberries, cherries and licorice introduce the 2018 Morgon Grands Cras, another superb wine from Burgaud that's medium to full-bodied, layered and enveloping, with a fleshy core, ripe acids and a long finish. If anything, this is even more charming than Les Charmes this year. They make a formidable—and keenly-priced—duo that readers will enjoy comparing. Wine Advocate 93 2019-09-05
2018 Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Les Charmes Burgaud's 2018 Morgon Les Charmes is superb, revealing a lovely bouquet that mingles cassis and dark cherries with smoked meats, dark chocolate and peonies. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and charming, with velvety tannins, succulent acids and a fleshy, layered core, concluding with a long finish. Despite its visceral drinkability, it's also a serious wine that will evolve gracefully for 15 years. Wine Advocate 93 2019-09-05
2017 Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Javernieres The 2017 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is showing beautifully from bottle and will be worth a special effort to seek out. Unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet featuring ripe black cherries and cassis fruit complemented by nuances of smoked meats, incense, spices and dark chocolate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with both considerable concentration and terrific energy, framed by powdery tannins and weightless despite its broad-shouldered profile. 2012 Castellroig Sabate i Coca Josep Coca Brut Nature The 2012 Josep Coca Brut Nature is a blend of 85% Xarello and 15% Macabeo that was aged for no less than 80 months. It comes from two soils that deliver grapes that are apt for a long aging due to their very good acidity, bright aromas and high resistance to oxidation so that the wine evolves very slowly. Like the rest of the range here, the wine has a strong stony sensation, and it's serious, austere and mineral. I also tasted the 2010 vintage of this wine to check the evolution, and it is very fresh, with a stronger stony sensation and doesn't show any oxidation. 14,663 bottles produced.
