Bordeaux Superieur |
Dark cherries and cassis with olives, tomato leaves and cocoa beans. Juicy and fresh with a medium to full body. Really ripe, but still fresh, with firm tannins. Some coffee and vanilla in the finish. A modern Bordeaux. Drink now or hold a year or two. |

Andrea Oberto |
Barolo |
All these wines in this flight from Andrea Oberto show a powerful 15% alcohol content across the board. It's all a bit much. The 2018 Barolo del Comune di La Morra reveals ripe fruit, dried cherry, black rose and toasted anise. The bouquet is very pretty indeed, but the muscle of the mouthfeel suggests a pairing with grilled or skillet-seared meat. |

Pic Saint-Loup 'Coste d'Aleyrac' |
The best version of this cuvée I can recall tasting, the 2020 Pic Saint Loup Coste d'Aleyrac is a softer, lusher, more generous wine than past (or succeeding) vintages, loaded with blackberry and black cherry fruit. Full, rich, velvety and long, it's a terrific value. As usual, it's an unoaked blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Carignan. |

Le Cadeau |
Pinot Noir 'Merci Reserve' Chehalem Mountains |
Deep magenta. An expansive bouquet evokes ripe red and blue fruits, candied flowers and vanilla, and a spicy nuance builds in the glass. Sappy and well-concentrated, offering sweet boysenberry and cherry cola flavors that become more lively with air. Smoothly blends depth and vivacity and finishes very long and precise, with youthfully gripping tannins and strong florality. |
