2016	Nicodemi	Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva 'Neromoro'	The 2016 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Neromoro Riserva opens slowly, dark, herbal and woodsy in nature, with black currants, crushed rocks, camphor and hints of lavender forming its bouquet. On the palate, it’s a model of elegance: velvety with medium-bodied weight, yet also possesses a brilliant balance of juicy acids, tart black fruits and minerals that create a lovely harmony. A coating of sweet tannins lingers as the 2016 finishes with a chocolatey richness accenting lingering nuances of black cherry. 2021	Dancing Crow Vineyards	Field Blend 'Old Stake 1901 Vineyard' Lake County	An intriguing and wonderfully intricate wine, this includes as many as 20 pre-Prohibition varieties co-fermented with a core of 65% Zinfandel. Many of the vines were planted more than 120 years ago, and the broad collection of varieties contributes a host of aromatic and flavor nuances to the brambly base flavors of blackberries, mulberries and both red and black raspberries. 2021	Dancing Crow Vineyards	Cabernet Sauvignon Lake County	What a pleasure to find a California Cabernet with almost no bells or whistles—just pure, gutsy fruit with deep and persistent flavors that are unencumbered with vanillin notes or other wood-based distractions. Flavors recalling blackberries, black currents, and black raspberries are nicely focused and show only a subtle degree of sweetness that seems like a natural extension of the fruit. 2021	Di Giovanna	Nero d'Avola 'Vurria'	Enticing aromas of blackberry bush at first – just like smelling your hands after you’ve been blackberry picking. With air, eucalyptus and sea-urchin-like notes creep in and it’s these that go on to characterize the medium- to full-bodied palate, building through the finish. Fine, lightly firm tannins. 2020	Di Giovanna	Nero d'Avola 'Helios'	There’s enough plummy and berry fruit to balance the oaky tannin on the medium-bodied palate. Notes of violets and light earth add some complexity. The Fattoria Nicodemi 2016 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva Neromoro (with 6,000 bottles made) offers power, freshness and an encouraging level of elegance. This grape tends to exhibit thick texture, soft tannins and abundant dark fruit. You get all that here, but the balance is what holds all those large-scale elements together. 2013	I Custodi	Etna Rosso 'Saeculare'	The I Custodi 2013 Etna Rosso Riserva Saeculare is a wine that stands out in this report. The bouquet is elegant and fine. The wine has evidently had ample time to flesh out and find balance with bottle aging. The tannins are silky and supple in texture. It drinks nicely right now, and there's no need to wait further. The blend has 80% Nerello Mascalese, but this Riserva also sees smaller percentages of Nerello Cappuccio, Alicante and other complementary grapes in the blend. These are ancient plants, a natural treasure to behold, with some vines reaching an almost unthinkable 250 years in age (on their original root stocks, of course) at 650 meters in elevation on the volcano. The wine ages slowly in tonneaux for four years and only 3,300 bottles of this precious wine exist.	Wine Advocate	95		2023-07-10
2021	I Custodi	Etna Rosato 'Alnus'	Made with Nerello Mascalese and a small part Nerello Cappuccio, the organic I Custodi 2021 Etna Rosato Alnus shows a bright pink color with light shades of ruby and amber. The wine has a slightly macerated bouquet with cherry skin and almond that give it more fruit weight for sure and additional texture.
