Tasting Notes
The old Coma Alta has been renamed and is now called Coma Calcari to remark on the limestone soils where the Garnacha Blanca grapes were planted in the year 2000. I love the spicy and savory nose of the 2021 Coma Calcari, with hints of chicken broth, herbs and spices intermixed with flowers and white fruit and the serious, balanced and chalky palate. The grapes were picked relatively early to preserve the acidity but still at 14% alcohol. It fermented 50% in 500-liter barrels and 50% in stainless steel, where the wine matured for nine months. Only 2,568 bottles were filled in June 2022.
