Freisa, Nebbiolo

Viticulture

Biodynamically farmed.
Pruning and soil work are done in accordance with the lunar phases; phytosanitary defense is done solely by the use of small amounts of copper, sulphur and natural infusions, including honey-based sprays to combat mold. Green manures (cover crop) composed of legumes, wheat and mustard enrich the soil with organic substance and increase biodiversity by encouraging the presence of useful insects.

Terroir

Inspired by a historically traditional wine of the area called Freisa "Nebbiolata" - which was typically made of Friesa with a bit of Nebbiolo added in. It was a favorite of Gabriele's Grandfather who made wine from this estate decades earlier.

Vineyard

20% late-harvest Freisa from the family's state vineyards in Roero. 80% young-vine Nebbiolo from their Barbaresco vineyards.

Vinification

Freisa and Nebbiolo fermented spontaneously in concrete. Aged in concrete for 8 months. Bottles unfined and unfiltered.
