Starting with the whites from Châteauneuf du Pape based Domaine Chante-Perdrix, both of which are outstanding, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is equal parts Grenache Blanc and Clairette that was brought up in 40% new barrels and the balance in stainless steel. Coming all from the Les Gallimardes lieu-dit, it’s a rich, textured, medium-bodied beauty that offers classic notes of buttered lemons, tangerine, and citrus. Drink it anytime over the coming 3-4 years, or cellaring for 7-8.
