There is something especially thrilling about discovering a bottle of wine that is truly terrific yet affordable enough to purchase by the case as a go-to weeknight pour.

Wine Spectator’s tasters have recently reviewed a number of delicious wines from around the world that fit this bill. A standout stunner from Portugal’s Dão region–a consistent source of remarkable value–is Global Wine‘s ripe Grilos red. It’s a blend of local red grapes and offers loads of cherry, plum and lively spice flavors at 90 points, all for just $8. In the U.S., Washington has established itself as another terrific region for wine values. At 90 points and just $14, H3‘s sleek Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon demonstrates this with multilayered notes of black cherry and mocha.

Representing regions from France to Chile, New Zealand and beyond, this group might be eclectic, but these wines all have something important in common: Though you’ll find them on shelves for $15 or less, they all taste like they should carry higher price tags.

LOBSTER REEF

Score: 89 | $12

WS review: This offers tangy lemon-lime notes on an appealingly juicy frame, showing details of grapefruit, peach and lime zest, with plenty of intensity. Drink now. 18,000 cases made, 13,200 cases imported. From New Zealand.—MaryAnn Worobiec
