CLEVELAND, Ohio – Our sparkling-wine guide comes out this time each year, as we know folks like to stock up on bubbles for the holidays. We tried a bunch – from one named Sex (made in Michigan), to one made in England (Nyetimber) to Costco’s own line (Kirkland) and many others from California to France.

But really, if we were being honest, sparkling wines can be, and should be, drunk year round. They are a perfect sipper to start an evening, and they go great with a variety of foods – many types of fish, sushi, cheeses and dishes with cream sauce, for instance.

Suffice to say, our pals at our annual sparkling-wine party gave a thumb’s up to the ones presented here. We are including definitions of words found on sparkling-wine bottles. If you know what bottle terms mean, you will arm yourself with knowledge. And knowledge is, of course, a good thing – for your palate as well as your mind.

Almost all of these came in at $25 or less. So – pop a cork or two and educate yourself. Cheers!

We offer our annual guide to sparkling wines. We’ll include a different term you can find on sparkling-wine labels as well. A little knowledge can help you understand what is in your bottle or glass.

Did you know? Cuvee means a blend of quality grapes and/or vintages. Not a bad thing! Different grapes from different years might be meshed into one bottle.
