Frey Vineyards are located along the headwaters of the Russian River, in Mendocino County, California, in small inland valleys surrounded by low hills covered with redwood, Douglas fir, madrone, oak and tan oak forests; small inland valleys with mild coastal influence. Typical elevation of vineyards is between 725 feet and 950 feet. Vines are 20 years old and average 4 tons/acre from harvest. 100% Certified organic and Biodynamic methods are used, with emphasis on improving the health of the soil, the groundwater and the wildlife.

Kwaya Cellars was born out of the longtime dream of our friend Nicky Coachman-Robinson, who has enjoyed 20 years of professional wine consulting, as well as a decade of sobriety. Five percent of all Kwaya profits will be donated to Bridges of Hope Recovery Center. Kwaya is the Hausa word for “seed.” Hausa is one of the most common African languages and is spoken in Nigeria, Ghana, and much of North Africa. The symbol in the Kwaya logo is the Adinkra symbol for “seed.” The Assante people of Ghana use the Adinkra system to express the connection between the verbal and the visual. Frey partnered with Nicky to co-create a wine label that celebrates African culture, organic farming, and the promise of unity.
Grapes are crushed, destemmed, and pressed following harvest. The wine ferments for 1 to 2 weeks, followed by 30-60 days of malolactic fermentation. Total sulfur is less than 10PPM.
