    Winery Overview

Viticola Mereu was born in Sorgono, in the heart of Mandrolisai, a region that lies at the very center of Sardinia. For generations, our family has cultivated the land and tended the vines, honoring a deep-rooted tradition of winemaking that respects both nature and the unique terroir that defines us. Our first bottled vintage dates back to the 2015 harvest. Since then, we have remained committed to crafting wines that are free from standardization, allowing the land to express itself without oenological constraints or conventions. This is our philosophy, our challenge, and our passion. Nestled at approximately 700 meters above sea level, our vineyards thrive in an environment where tradition meets experimentation. 90% of the vines are trained as low bush vines (sapling), with Mandrolisai’s indigenous varieties—Muristeddu, Cannonau, Monica, and Nuragus—forming the backbone of our production. Small percentages of Girò, Moscato, Pascale, and Laconargiu add further complexity, while an experimental plot is dedicated to late-ripening Nebbiolo. Every stage of vineyard management is done by hand, from winter pruning and plowing to the traditional removal of stumps. The vines are dry-farmed, relying solely on natural rainfall, and we protect them from disease using only sulfur- and copper-based treatments. Harvesting is entirely manual, and fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts from the grapes themselves, using the traditional "piè de cuve" method. Our red wines ferment on the skins for 8 to 15 days, then mature for ten months in a combination of small oak barrels and stainless steel before bottling. Our white wines rest on the skins for 48 hours before aging for seven months in steel and fiberglass tanks. True to our commitment to authenticity, we neither filter nor clarify our wines, preserving their natural character and integrity. At Viticola Mereu, each bottle tells the story of our land, our traditions, and our unwavering dedication to producing wines that are pure, expressive, and deeply rooted in Mandrolisai.
