    Brewery Overview

Founded in 1791 by Jean-Baptist Bosteels in Buggenhout, Belgium the Bosteels family has carefully crafted beers with passion for over 200 years and seven generations. Seven generations who have brewed with the same relentless rigour to produce Belgium’s finest beer, while continuously pushing their craft. As evidence, the Bosteels brewery has never stopped brewing, even during the World Wars. In fact brewing has played such an important role in the history of the area that 3 generations of the 7 Bosteels have been town mayors. In the 1980’s Antoine's son Ivo Bosteels honoured the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by rightfully returning it back to the market, restoring an icon back to the world of beer. Signalling the beginning of a glorious relationship between the Bosteels family brewery and strong Belgian beers. In 1990 Ivo’s own son, a 7th generation Bosteels, Antoine Bosteels recognized the incredible potential for strong beers, especially the emerging opportunity for strong blond beers, and then created the impeccable Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres.

    Description

Their history of doing things differently started with the original innovative thinker - brewer and landlord - Pauwel Kwak.
During the French occupation, Napoleonic code dictated that “coach drivers shalt not descend from their coaches nor abandon their horses to quench their thirst”. Mail coaches stopped daily for a break at De Hoorn Inn, a coaching tavern on the road. To please his patrons, Pauwel Kwak invented a novel blown glass to hang their beer aboard their coach and drink it without spilling a drop! This inspired the brewery from nearby Buggenhout and since the 1980’s, Bosteels has brewed “Pauwel Kwak” and produced the iconic glass, continuing the unconventional tradition that can be enjoyed today.

Deep amber beer with a satisfyingly dense, creamy colored head, balance of dark caramel, dried orange, a subtle hint of banana and baking spices with a touch of earthiness, and medium-bodied character with a soft, mellow warmth.
