Don Sebastiani & Sons
Simple Life Pinot Noir
United States, California, California

Winery Overview
Simple Life and Gunsight Rock creators Sebastiani & Sons’ history date back to 1904 when Italian immigrant Samuele Sebastiani began his career in Sonoma County. With 9 years of savings from his job hauling paving stones by cart, Samuele made his first batch of wine. He sold his wine out of the back of that very same stone-hauling cart, and the Sebastiani family wine business was born.
Samuele’s success grew over the years — he even held on through Prohibition by maintaining a winery license to produce for churches and medicinal purposes, securing the Sebastianis as one of the premier American winemaking families.
By 2001, 3rd-generation Don and his two sons, Donny and August, established Don Sebastiani & Sons in Sonoma, a wine company with a reputation for quality. Today the company is led by Donny Sebastiani, great-grandson of Samuele, the Sebastiani patriarch. “The plan is to continue the progress that previous generations in my family have made,” says Donny. “I want to have a similar impact on the wine industry. We are focusing on appellation-driven wines that appeal to a more wine-savvy audience.”
Regal represents the following brands from Don & Sons:
Simple Life: A celebration of the small-town Sonoma life and all of its simple pleasures. Classic California varietals, in easy-drinking styles, to be enjoyed as an everyday indulgence.
Gunsight Rock: Gunsight Rock wines highlight the richness and beauty of California’s wine country. Wild, intense and adventurous, they evoke the feeling of the sun on your face, the wind at your back, and the view of one of the world’s most picturesque wine regions – Paso Robles – spread out before you.
“The best thing a company can offer is well-made products of consistent quality. That’s our family tradition, and that continues to be our vision for Don & Sons.” – Donny Sebastiani
California boasts nearly 100 American Viticulture Areas (AVAs), that encompass over a half million acres of vineyards, supporting a diverse varietal mix. Pinot Noir, a cool climate varietal, thrives in the fog-bathed coastal vineyard sites.
Viticulture
With its moderate climate, and diverse terroir, the state of California offers many distinct AVAs. Simple Life wines are sourced throughout California's prime grape growing regions. The "Golden State" is known for its abundant sunshine which helps to ensure a reliable extended growing season. The core of this wine was crafted around the Pommard Clone 4, which has clusters about half of the size of a clenched fist with bright fruit concentration and fresh raspberry flavors.
Vinification
The majority of the Pinot Noir fruit comes from the Clarksburg region. The grapes were fermented in a combination of oak as well as stainless steel tank to retain the bright, fresh fruit character.
Aging
10 months French oak aging, 60% new, 40% seasoned.
Tasting Notes
Cranberry red color in the glass with aromas of plummy fruit, ripe strawberry and rose petal. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied with a velvety texture and well-integrated tannins. The juicy fruit-forward palate offers flavors of tart cherry, pomegranate, sweet vanilla oak and very subtle spice. The combination of juicy fruit and nuanced oak make for a balanced, easy-drinking wine.
