    Don Sebastiani & Sons

    Simple Life Chardonnay

    United States, California, California

    White

    Winery Overview

Simple Life and Gunsight Rock creators Sebastiani & Sons’ history date back to 1904 when Italian immigrant Samuele Sebastiani began his career in Sonoma County. With 9 years of savings from his job hauling paving stones by cart, Samuele made his first batch of wine. He sold his wine out of the back of that very same stone-hauling cart, and the Sebastiani family wine business was born. Samuele’s success grew over the years — he even held on through Prohibition by maintaining a winery license to produce for churches and medicinal purposes, securing the Sebastianis as one of the premier American winemaking families. By 2001, 3rd-generation Don and his two sons, Donny and August, established Don Sebastiani & Sons in Sonoma, a wine company with a reputation for quality. Today the company is led by Donny Sebastiani, great-grandson of Samuele, the Sebastiani patriarch. “The plan is to continue the progress that previous generations in my family have made,” says Donny. “I want to have a similar impact on the wine industry. We are focusing on appellation-driven wines that appeal to a more wine-savvy audience.” Regal represents the following brands from Don & Sons: Simple Life: A celebration of the small-town Sonoma life and all of its simple pleasures. Classic California varietals, in easy-drinking styles, to be enjoyed as an everyday indulgence. Gunsight Rock: Gunsight Rock wines highlight the richness and beauty of California’s wine country. Wild, intense and adventurous, they evoke the feeling of the sun on your face, the wind at your back, and the view of one of the world’s most picturesque wine regions – Paso Robles – spread out before you. “The best thing a company can offer is well-made products of consistent quality. That’s our family tradition, and that continues to be our vision for Don & Sons.” – Donny Sebastiani

    Vineyard

    Select vineyards throughout Sonoma County

    Terroir

California boasts nearly 100 American Viticulture Areas (AVAs), that encompass over a half million acres of vineyards, supporting a diverse varietal mix. Chardonnay, a cool climate varietal, thrives in the fog-bathed coastal vineyard sites.

    Viticulture

This wine is meant to showcase high-quality fruit from premier California vineyard regions including Lodi, Clarksburg, Mendocino, and Sonoma Counties. At harvest, the Chardonnay grapes were picked at optimum ripeness and received at the winery in the cool morning hours.

    Vinification

Only 50% of the Chardonnay was fermented with oak while the remainder was fermented in stainless steel to preserve the bright fruit character in the wine. The majority of the Chardonnay goes through malolactic fermentation, building mouthfeel and creaminess. The Chenin Blanc and Viognier in the blend do not go through the malolactic fermentation, allowing the wine to maintain its lively acidity and pure, bright fruit character.

    Tasting Notes

Approachable with lifted aromas of ripe pear, Honeydew melon, Meyer lemon zest and fresh stone fruit. The attractive bouquet on the nose rings true on the palate where juicy, tropical fruit flavors work well with the soft vanilla custard and toasted almond notes. The wine is well-balanced with bright fruit, creamy texture and a crisp mineral finish lingering on the finish.
